The unexpected release date for Ryan Reynolds‘ MCU debut in Deadpool 3 comes after a flurry of announcements from Disney and Marvel Studios.
With an A-list cast already assembled in London to bring the MCU’s first X-Men-centric movie to the big screen, Reynolds is currently filming Deadpool 3.
Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine’s Deadpool has been included in Marvel Studios’ overarching story, although the ongoing writers’ strike has cast some doubt on the sequel’s production.
Story details are mostly unknown, but it would be exciting to see Deadpool and Wolverine go head-to-head for a full movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The release date for Deadpool 3 is Proposed
Marvel Studios has moved up the official release date for Deadpool 3 from the initial November 8, 2024, to May 3, 2024.
Anthony Mackie’s first solo Captain America movie was scheduled to open on this day before it was recently renamed Captain America: Brave New World. Thunderbolts’ original release date of July 26, 2024, will now be used for that film.
Deadpool 3’s release date has been pushed back twice, but this time it will happen before the originally planned release date.
Deadpool 3 began production in May 2023, less than a year from its release instead of 18 months, adding to the surprise surrounding this release date.
The MCU movie was actually delayed before pushing back its release date, which happened to half a dozen other Marvel Studios movies in the latest announcement, including Ryan Reynolds’ first MCU movie.
These include Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will now arrive on May 1, 2026, a year later than originally expected, and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will arrive on May 7, 2027.
Why the Release Update for Deadpool 3 is So Surprising
The moving up of Deadpool 3’s release date can only bode well for these three highly-anticipated sequels, especially in light of Marvel Studios’ decision to move up the release dates of six future projects in the multiverse saga.
Marvel has a lot riding on this movie, as it’s the MCU’s first attempt at pure R-rated storytelling, and the company is no doubt hoping to match the popularity of the previous two Deadpool movies.
With this upcoming crossover, which will be the MCU’s first chance to fully test the limits of what the Multiverse has to offer, Ryan Reynolds continues to show just how seriously committed he is to the character.
Even with the ongoing writers’ strike and the fact that the trilogy’s release date is less than a year away, Disney’s hopes for this landmark movie shouldn’t be discounted.
