Eternals is expected to return for a sequel, but Eternals 2 shouldn’t copy the MCU’s Thor: Ragnarok tricks. The Eternal Movie, set for release in 2021, sees the MCU with the largest ensemble cast ever as immortal beings defend Earth from mutants. While the MCU began exploring the wider universe with films such as Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy, Eternals moved on with their ancient guardians. Directed by Chloe Zhao and starring Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, and Gemma Chan, with a Harry Styles cameo at the end, Eternal received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Marvel is not the post-pandemic success they were hoping for.
The last time the MCU film received such a good response was The Eternal Thor: The Dark World and Marvel responded by completely overhauling the series, but The Eternal didn’t need this treatment as Chloe Zhao’s direction was not an issue. was. Thor: Ragnarok brought on Taika Waititi to direct, which completely changed the tone, allowing Hemsworth to tap into Thor’s more comedic side and give him a more solid identity and personality. However, Chloe Zhao was responsible for the stunning visuals of Eternal and made her mark; Eternals 2 can stay the same, as they are the most admired aspect of Eternals. Something needs to change for Eternals 2, but copying the tone and direction of Thor: Ragnarok, which replaced Thor, would be a big mistake for the MCU.
Thor needs a new invention; not eternal
Thor: The Dark World was a commercial success and was enjoyed by some audiences and critics, but it was widely regarded as one of the weakest MCU films ever, and a problem for the entire Thor series. Since Thor’s personality changed between the Thor and Avengers films and there was little left of Thor: The Dark World, the Thor series has no definition around his titular character. Thor had its comedic moments, and Taika Waititi, who had a big deal in the story, brought it back in Thor: Ragnarok and really put his stamp on it, making Thor: Ragnarok a huge hit.
The Eternal already has a directing ticket to Chloe Zhao, and Waititi doesn’t need to edit his visuals and tone the way he wants. Eternals are forgettable, and its reviews have focused heavily on the story and its lack of development, especially with such a large cast. Eternals 2 still needs Zhao to match the tone of the Immortals, but the story needs to go deeper into the characters so that audiences are more connected to them. Now that the foundation has been laid for who they are and what Eternals has accomplished, Eternals 2 could use its time to create a more compelling plot with a more varied storyline.
Eternal 2: Is it happening? what is known so far?
Although Eternals ended with a clip saying they would return, there has been no official confirmation from Marvel or Disney regarding Eternals 2. Patton Oswald, who voiced CGI Pip the Troll in Eternals, said he would return to direct Eternals alongside Chloe Zhao (via Esquire). Still, there was no confirmation on D23 backing it up. . However, Comic-Con and T23 mainly focused on the crowded Phase 5 of the MCU. There is certainly room for an Eternal sequel in Phase 6, as it currently only features Marvel’s Fantastic Four, Avengers: The Kong Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars. In this order. Also, in an interview (via Face Zero), the Marvel VP and Eternal producer said, “I don’t want to spoil anything, but we haven’t seen the last of those characters.” There’s no confirmation yet, but it’s safe to assume that characters from Eternals will appear in new MCU movies, and there will hopefully be an Eternals sequel.
