According to Disney, Kang the Conqueror has displaced Thanos as the MCU’s Most Powerful villain.
Jonathan Majors may have made his MCU debut in Loki as He Who Remains, but in the first movie of Phase 5, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the actor will make his screen debut as Kang the Conqueror.
Marvel Studios has unveiled a trailer for the next film, which features Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man being drawn into Kang’s sector of the Quantum Realm with his squad of heroes.
Additionally, the trailer hinted at some of Kang’s unmatched abilities, which reportedly make him the most ominous character in the entire MCU.

Who Is the MCU’s Most Powerful Villain?
Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, was referred to as “the MCU’s most powerful villain to date” in the press release issued by Disney for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, even surpassing Thanos.
So how did he become so strong? In the most recent Quantumania trailer, Janet Van Dyne played by Michelle Pfeiffer says, “He can rewrite existence and break timelines… You cannot trust him.”
Peyton Reed, the director, referred to Kang as “the most powerful being in the Multiverse,” and said it was “exciting” to have Scott Lang, one of the underappreciated Avengers, face off against such a danger:
“It was fantastic to contrast that intensity with Paul Rudd’s energy because it reflected what we were doing in the actual movie. Many individuals may view Ant-Man as the “weakest” Avenger: “What can that guy do? He contracts, conversing with ants. That is absurd.” It sounded incredibly exciting to us that he would be facing off against Kang the Conqueror, the most potent entity in the multiverse.”
Reed commended the “energy” that Jonathan Majors had while filming Kang, describing the actor as a “quite scary presence” to the extent that the cast and crew “knew Kang the Conqueror was there:”
“Jonathan completely changed the vibe on the set. All of the Ant-Man films have been comedies. To allow the performers to go in front of the camera and feel comfortable trying strange things, I like to make a really laid-back, enjoyable set. It’s a secure area. Jonathan then entered the scene with this disruptive, quite threatening force. When he arrived on the set, we knew Kang the Conqueror was there because he had music with him.”
Reed claims that the scale of Quantumania will be enormous and that a bad guy like Kang was required to make it happen. Kang is “one of the great adversaries” in all of Marvel comics, the filmmaker added as well:
“We made the decision that we wanted to go tremendously big while maintaining the closeness of the family story. And in a movie like this, we needed a top-notch antagonist to accomplish that. I always adored Kang the Conqueror as a child who read all the comic books growing up. He was one of the best villains in comic books.”
The MCU’s Kang’s Reign of Power
When it comes to the severity of his punishment, it is uncertain how far Kang will go in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, but it appears that he will govern the MCU at least for the following two installments.
If the upcoming Avengers movie’s The Kang Dynasty title wasn’t persuasive enough, Peyton Reed’s remarks on the Conqueror’s tremendous presence and power demonstrate that the character is serious.
Even Jonathan Majors discussed the parallels and distinctions between his persona and Thanos, hinting at the Conqueror’s “ongoing presence” in the years to come.
The actor also discussed the distinctions between the two MCU villains, claiming that his journey with Kang and the power he will unleash will take place on “a totally different planet.”
The fact that Kang is already receiving more attention than the Mad Titan suggests that he will be a brutal leader after Thanos startled everyone by erasing half of the cosmos. In the near future, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will have their job cut out for them.
