The MCU’s Most Potent Magic Users, Ranked

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s focus on magic was elevated by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (MCU). The power of magic users was made clear to viewers on a personal level. However, magic has been present in the MCU for a while now. The most magic users were introduced to us all at once in the first Doctor Strange movie, which was released in 2016.

Along with Doctor Strange, other characters with magical abilities include Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Frigga (Rene Russo), and Hela (Cate Blanchett). Marvel even managed to sneak in one exceptionally strong magic user into the Runaways TV show. Additionally, Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight introduced some strong practitioners of cosmic magic and dark magic.

Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) may be pretty arrogant about their power, but there are some other magical characters they need to be on the lookout for. Because of their strength, some of the magic users on this list are almost as powerful as Strange and Maximoff.

top 10 most powerful magic users in the MCU

1. Ms. Marvel

MCU
Marvel

Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) was revealed to be a magic user in the Ms. Marvel television series. Her origin stories and powers were switched in the television show, and one of her new abilities was the capacity to use cosmic magic. She refers to this strong energy as “hard light,” which is drawn from the Noor dimension and has a purple glow to it. Khan can morph and lengthen her limbs and fist using cosmic magic, as well as create “hard light” that she can walk on and fire crystalline projections. It is implied toward the end of the series that the fact that she is an Inhuman is what enables her to use cosmic magic.

Unfortunately, only Ms. Marvel has been able to use cosmic magic from the Noor dimension in the MCU to this point. Since there are still so many questions about her abilities, it is challenging to compare how they stack up to those of other magic users. She may produce progressively more potent magical performances as time goes on. But based on Mrs. Marvel, even though she has special abilities, it doesn’t seem like she could compete with real powerhouses like Wanda, Doctor Strange, or Hela.

2. Wong

MCU
Marvel

Wong (Benedict Wong), who first appeared in Doctor Strange, is one of the most accomplished Mystics. It is made known that Wong is now the Sorcerer Supreme in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Due to a technicality that resulted from Strange being blipped, he was given the title.

Wong frequently puts Strange in his place, always speaks with reason, and is almost unfailingly loyal. Wong is significantly more skilled and knowledgeable in everything pertaining to the Mystic Arts, despite the fact that Strange might be more powerful.

Even in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, he once used his abilities to defeat Abomination. But Wong usually works best as a protector or helper. He lacks the ruthlessness or disregard for the arts required to use his power to the fullest. He frequently appears content to defend the sanctum while leaving the major battles to Strange.

3. Loki

MCU
Marvel

The God of Mischief, Loki, is a skilled user of Asgardian magic. He grows up having a close relationship with his adoptive mother, Frigga. Frigga, who was raised by witches and is skilled in Asgardian magic, teaches Loki how to use it. As a result, Loki acquires extensive knowledge of magic and uses it to transform himself and produce illusions. He has triumphed numerous times throughout the MCU by deceiving those around him, using magic to create dummies, concealing himself, manipulating his appearance, and mentally controlling others.

As a result of his resourcefulness and strategic thinking, Loki frequently succeeds. His tricks don’t necessarily translate into power though. He needs the Tesseract and the title of King to give him the kind of power he wants, which is why he seeks them so fervently.

It explains why Josh Brolin’s (Thanos’) easy death and Strange’s lack of hesitation when Loki challenges him both occur. Loki has a distinct advantage due to his cunning and naughty use of magic. He still has no chance against people who are able to decipher his lies, though.

4. Morgan le Fay

MCU
Marvel

In Runaways on Hulu, Morgan le Fay made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Le Fay is a very strong enchantress who initially opposed King Arthur. She was consequently cast into the Dark Dimension for ages, where she continued her plans to rule the globe. After leaving the Dark Dimension, she follows Kaecilius’ (Mads Mikkelsen) plan from Doctor Strange by attempting to combine Earth and the Dark Dimension. She is exiled back to the Dark Dimension after the Runaways thwart her plans.

Le Fay has a long list of skills and abilities, to put it mildly. She has the power to sway people to her will, defend herself from harm, use telepathy, conjure up illusions, communicate with beings in the Dark Dimension and the Earthly Plane, and heal herself. Because of her use of and familiarity with dark magic, le Fay surpasses many of the magic-users on this list. She still doesn’t seem to be able to escape the Dark Dimension despite her abilities and the Darkhold. She would probably use her abilities to cause havoc if it weren’t for her prison.

5. Hela

MCU
Marvel

In Thor: Ragnarok, Hela made a dramatic entrance and quickly and by herself brought all of Asgard to its knees. She was both the Asgardian Goddess of Death and the Executor, the daughter of Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Odin exiled Hela after she tried to usurp the throne. But after his passing, she is set free and goes back to take control of Asgard. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki, her brothers, are no match for her. In the end, she is destroyed along with Hela when the Surtur is let loose and decimates all of Asgard.

Hela is a formidable force. Hela has far more control over her magic than Loki and Frigga, who only use it for crude tricks. She can, for instance, direct magic energy into her hands, giving her the ability to break Thor’s hammer. She can also manifest Necroswords, which she uses in her Asgardian massacre, in addition to these other abilities. Hela gains her strength, speed, agility, and durability from the power of Asgard itself. Hela’s immense power can only be halted by the Surtur (and the destruction of Asgard itself).

6. Ammit

MCU
Marvel

Ammit, a remarkably strong magical being introduced to the MCU by Moon Knight (Saba Mubarak). The fact that we are unsure of Ammit’s exact magic arsenal is intriguing. She possesses extremely potent energy with a purple glow. Because of this, it resembles the appearance of Dark Magic, like Agatha Harkness’s. However, the MCU withholds information regarding the nature and sources of Ammit’s magical ability.

Although its origin is unknown, Ammit is a tremendously powerful being. Through Arthur Harrow’s (Ethan Hawke) staff, we only get a glimpse of Ammit’s power for the majority of the series. Even though it only possesses a tiny portion of Ammit’s strength, it is sufficient to judge human souls and even call Jackals. When Ammit is fully empowered, she can easily obliterate millions of people and eat their souls.

She is significantly stronger than the other gods, who exhibit their fear of her. She still has flaws, particularly the vulnerability that comes from being able to be attached to an Avatar. However, if not for that one technicality, there isn’t much that Khonshu (Karim El Hakim and F. Murray Abraham) or Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac) could’ve done to stop her once she used her power.

7. The Ancient One

MCU
Marvel

As the Sorcerer Supreme and head of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, The Ancient One first made an appearance in Doctor Strange. She has proven to be an absolute master of the mystic arts as a result, and she is a very strong sorceress. In addition, it is revealed that she is using the Dark Dimension to strengthen her abilities. She has the ability to bend reality and become immortal thanks to her use of the Dark Dimension.

The Ancient One has literally had centuries to perfect her abilities. She is a master of the mystic arts and has access to the Dark Dimension. It goes without saying that she is a formidable opponent. She is actually more powerful than Strange. She served as his mentor, and he is still learning how to respect her authority.

The Ancient One developed her talent over centuries, whereas Strange developed his abilities over the course of months. However, in a very short amount of time, Strange has already reached levels of power that are almost on par with hers. causing her to think he will be much better than her.

8. Doctor Strange

MCU
Marvel

Master of the Mystic Arts and former Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange (before Wong stole his title). He is also a very quick learner; after only a few months of instruction, he assumed control of the New York Sanctum. He is incredibly skilled at using spells, mirror-dimension magic, eldritch magic, and many other magical techniques.

In addition to defeating various incarnations of himself, Strange has vanquished Kaecilius, outwitted Dormammu, discovered the only way to stop Thanos, cast a spell that nearly destroyed the universe, and outwitted Kaecilius. Not only that, but we’ve seen from What If…? and Doctor Strange 2 that he could actually obliterate the entire universe if he really wanted to. Few opponents can match him in terms of intelligence, strategy, and magic prowess. But even he cannot stand a chance against chaos magic.

9. Wanda Maximoff

MCU
Marvel

Doctor Strange is unable to match Wanda’s power, as we can see in Doctor Strange 2. She is practically unstoppable once she accepts her role as the Scarlet Witch, develops her chaos magic, and draws strength from the Darkhold. Wanda is the only magic user in the MCU who has access to chaos magic. She now has the ability to bend reality to her will.

We witnessed her hexing an entire town and warping it into a sitcom-themed reality in WandaVision. Not only that, but she also develops her own children and Vision (Paul Bettany). Nothing really has the power to stop Wanda with the use of chaos magic and the Darkhold’s strength. else, is there?

10. DORMAMMU

MCU
Marvel

Only one live-action appearance of Dormammu has been made in the MCU thus far, in Doctor Strange. In the movie, Dormammu is the Dark Dimension’s undisputed monarch. He is said to be an infinitely powerful being who desires to bring all universes into the Dark Dimension.

He conned Kaecilius into aiding him in his attempt to combine Earth and the Dark Dimension in Doctor Strange. Strange, however, uses the time stone to lock Dormammu in an endless loop and won’t let him out until he consents to leave Earth.

The important thing to remember at this point is that Strange only managed to outwit Dormammu for a short period of time. In truth, Dormammu killed Strange in a split second and repeated the act a thousand times throughout the endless loop.

Time itself cannot stop Dormammu, who also has complete control over all of the power in the Dark Dimension. Wanda does possess chaos magic, but Dormammu has access to the power of an entire dimension. I think Dormammu would have put her out just as quickly as he did Strange if they had faced off.
