One scene from the Spider-Verse trailer revealed an intriguing tie-in to the upcoming Marvel film Madame Web.
Rumors and in-depth analysis accompany any high-profile release. Across the Spider-Verse is one of the most anticipated projects for 2023, and anticipation for Miles Morales’ next appearance is already skyrocketing.
The trailer has already been dissected frame by frame by feverish fans. Links to existing Spider-Man projects continue to emerge, and Peter Parker’s daughter was even revealed in a YouTube premium exclusive.
Aside from that, there have been rumors about who might appear, including Tom Holland making his animated Spider-Man debut. An MCU producer teased, even more, telling fans that “anything is possible.”
However, it appears that Holland’s Peter Parker is not the only live-action spider with a connection to Miles Morales’ animated antics.

Spider-Verse Teases Madame Web
Miles Morales and Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web have an exciting connection, according to fans.
In one scene, as 2099 rushes toward Miles Morales, the hero is seen wielding a device resembling the Web of Life and Destiny, a vital tool in Spider-Man lore and closely related to the Madame Web series.
The Web of Life has previously appeared in the Spider-Verse films, as well as in the first Spider-Verse film.
Although many may mistake it for a pretty background, fans of Spider-Man comics will recognize this purple nebula-like webbing as an important part of the lore.
The Web of Life is a mystical force that “acts as a model of the entire Multiverse and enables travel between realities” and even bestows powers and abilities on some Spider-Man characters, such as Madame Web.
The Spider-Verse version differs from the 2018 version. Some aspects of the original interconnected web design remain. However, Marvel appears to have retconned the Web of Life and given the device a more comic-book-like makeover.
Both feature a version of the Web of Life that appears to be controlled by an eight-legged spider, which was not present in the first Spider-Verse entry. Spider-totems are also known to protect the Web of Life. Peter Parker is the most well-known of these, but he isn’t the only one tasked with its protection.
Madame Web’s sole purpose is to protect it by any means necessary, and it not only grants her and others the precognitive “Spider-Sense,” but her mission is to deal with any threat to the balance of the multiverse.
The inclusion of the Web of Life could point to her animated appearance in the film, or it could have implications for Dakota Johnson’s upcoming incarnation, which is set to hit theatres on February 16, 2024.
What Are the Other Marvel Connections to Sony’s Spider-Verse?
Madame Web is one of many characters linked to Miles Morales’ Spider-Verse adventures.
Fans were introduced to Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, Spider-Ham, and two different versions of Peter Parker in the first film.
The Bombastic Bagman, a reference to the costume Peter Parker had to wear when he was separated from his alien symbiote by Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm, makes another appearance in the latest entry.
Oscar Isaac’s involvement has also been highly anticipated, with his role as Spider-Man 2099 appearing to play a key role in the trailer after his appearance was teased in the first film’s post-credits scene. He’s now seen chasing Miles furiously after he appears to enrage the hardened Miguel O’Hara.
Madame Web’s potential appearance and tie-in are teased in The Web of Life, but whether she will join the growing list of appearances remains unknown.
Fans will find out when Across the Spider-Verse hits theatres on June 2, 2023.
