Before No Way Home opened in theatres in December 2021, talk about Spider-Man 4 started, and it picked up after the film’s release.
Fans are eager to see Tom Holland reprise his role as Spider-Man in the MCU following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home and a recent update directly from Sony Pictures has offered a promising development.
Spider-Man 4 was in development at the time, according to former Sony executive Amy Pascal. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige backed up her assertions by saying they were “actively beginning to develop where the story goes.”
Since then, Sony Pictures has consistently released more encouraging updates regarding Holland’s Spider-Man 4. Even though the release date for the sequel is still unknown, a previous rumor that it is allegedly targeting July 2024 sheds some light on the matter.

When Does Spider-Man 4 Come Out?
Tom Rothman, chairman, and CEO of Sony Pictures, briefly addressed the release date of the upcoming live-action Spider-Man movie in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
When asked if it’s obvious that the Web-Slinger will return in live-action after Across the Spider-Verse brings thousands of animated Spideys to the big screen, Rothman simply replied, “You bet.”
What are the chances of the upcoming movie’s release date? The head of Sony Pictures said he was still unsure of the potential release date and advised fans to be patient, using the catchphrase from the popular Gallo wine line, “We will sell no wine before its time”:
“I’m not sure when you should anticipate it. Do not serve wine before its time.
Will production on Spider-Man 4 start in 2023?
Tom Rothman, CEO of Sony Pictures, recently stated that the company is taking its time to create and eventually release Spider-Man 4. This would make sense given that Peter Parker’s journey was restarted in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
This is also consistent with Tom Holland’s intention to rest before making his eventual MCU comeback as Spider-Man. Spider-Man 4’s rumored July 2024 release date is certainly feasible given that it will only be 2.5 years after No Way Home, but in order for that to happen, filming would have to start at some point in 2023.
Holland’s leave of absence appears to have been completed as of now in 2022, making 2023 the more likely year for him to return to work as Spider-Man in the MCU. Even so, everything will depend on how its script is developed, especially since Spider-Man 4 hasn’t yet received any other casting or plot announcements.
Whatever the case, Rothman’s promise is a positive indication of what to expect from Spider-Man 4, and fans can only hope that as 2023 approaches, more specific updates will become available.
