Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, recently spoke about how long he intends to continue playing the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ever since he was first introduced as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the post-credits scene of Marvel Studios’ first film, 2008’s Iron Man, Jackson currently has the longest tenure of anyone in the MCU.
He has been in all four of the Infinity Saga Avengers movies and appeared in the animated film What If…? throughout the multiverse saga, and will appear in two more movies this year, Secret Invasion and The Marvels.

Jackson still “[loves] playing with him” and believes Fury “hasn’t gotten over” his influence in the MCU, despite him just saying “one last fight” in a sneak peek of Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion:
I love playing him and I love the way they show him all these different opportunities and the full scope of his existence. So I hope I’m done and continue to float in and out of the MCU during this new phase.
Fury’s eyepatch, goatee, and leather jacket will all be gone during his first appearance in Phase 5 thanks to Secret Invasion. According to Jackson, this presents “an opportunity to humanize someone” who is widely perceived as “superhuman” by people in the narrative and fans:
“All these ingredients create an unassailable Nick Fury. This guy is showing his face and his age in this case. It’s an opportunity to give someone who everyone thinks is superhuman a human face.”

During Secret Invasion, he not only made 13 of 14 MCU appearances but also became the fifth MCU star to serve as executive producer for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series.

Given that Fury has yet to miss an Avengers movie in the MCU, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars would be the most likely candidates for Nick Fury to have another cameo.
A more sensible choice for solo movies would probably be something like Captain America: New World Order, where Sam Wilson could give advice or a warning as he assumes a bigger position with the Avengers.
He could also come in handy in the Armor Wars, helping Don Cheadle’s War Machine as one of Rhodey’s last contacts with Tony Stark as he prepares to deal with a changing world where Stark technology ends up in the wrong hands.
And considering that several other MCU staples have already been announced to be joining the action, Fury would be a logical choice to help usher in the multi-talented newcomer, especially with Deadpool finally taking his place in the MCU. in Deadpool 3 of 2024.
Jackson’s involvement in the MCU doesn’t seem to be over, regardless of where and when Fury shows up after this year. The original post-credits cameo artist plans to continue working with Marvel Studios.
