Ryan Reynolds recently expressed his unvarnished view on Wolverine‘s 2009 debut solo Marvel film.
Ryan Reynolds has either had tremendous hits (Deadpool, Deadpool 2) or major fail when it comes to superhero flicks (Green Lantern, X-Men Origins: Wolverine).
Reynolds, who played Wade Wilson for the first time in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, would not have eventually adopted the version of the character that fans currently enjoy.
Even though Deadpool is known as the “Merc with a Mouth,” labeling the original version of the character “Deadpool” is at best being charitable given that he is mute and has a stitched-up mouth. As in, speaking plays a significant role in who he is.

Ryan Reynold Criticizes the Film “Wolverine Origin”
Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool’s Wade Wilson, opened up about his feelings for X-Men Origins: Wolverine in an interview with Variety.
Hugh Jackman, who will play Wolverine in Deadpool 3, was given the responsibility for the movie’s “total trash fire” description by Reynolds, who added that “that one was on him:
Hugh Jackman was one of the first movie stars I ever worked with, back in 2007, on an absolute trash fire called “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” – that one was on him, despite what everyone is expecting me to say.
Yet he went on to praise the actor for being courteous to everyone on the set, noting that “that type of impact spreads.” “A lot of excellent individuals who work in the bizarre and wonderful world of show business,” according to Reynolds, thank Jackman.
“And what really stood out to me about him was how kind he was. One of the first persons I saw at that level respected the caterer equally to the director, producer, or head of the studio, he was one of the first. Simply put, he treated everyone equally. And you are aware of the spread of that impression. And a lot of the great actors and actresses who work in the bizarre and wonderful world of show business, in my opinion, are probably because of Hugh Jackman. Well, yes.”
Reynolds, who is still resentful of that first appearance, felt compelled to criticize his co-star once more, quoting the first line of Deadpool 2:
Also, fuck that guy.
Reynolds has previously expressed his dislike for his first appearance as Deadpool. In a post-credit scene from Deadpool 2, he even appeared to kill his silent counterpart.
Reynolds expressed his affection for playing Deadpool in a beautiful Tweet celebrating X-Men Day in 2019 and said that he even loved “‘Practice Deadpool’ in 2009,” referring to his role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
“Enjoy #XMenDay. It’s been the best gig of my life ever since I put on the costume for the first time. ‘Practice Deadpool‘ even in 2009. Not a true X-Man or X-person”
Then, in 2022, Reynolds simply stated “X-Men: Origins:” in response to a Tweet from @stevenspohn asking “what terminated your closest friendship.”

Yet Another origin Slander?
Reynolds‘ continuing disparaging remarks about Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Wade’s enthusiastic “Fuck Him” remark towards Jackman and Wolverine, respectively, make it seem likely that further jokes about the iconic original Deadpool will be made in the future movie.
Deadpool series movies are known for their self-aware, self-deprecating comedy, whether it be Ryan Reynolds poking fun at himself, comic book artists who can’t draw feet, or the MCU itself.
In addition to Reynolds tweeting about Jackman’s participation in the third installment with an X-Men Origins joke in the first place (“Hard keeping my mouth stitched shut on this one. “), X-Men Origins: Wolverine has already been the target of a Deadpool joke.
Overall, Wolverine from X-Men Origins won’t ever be safe from Deadpool’s rage.
