Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man movie has been halted by a Hollywood writers’ strike.
Following up on the multiversal antics of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man 4 is confirmed to be in development, with the hero returning to his “core” roots.
Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige recently stated that the project’s story is complete and that the writers are “writing the script for the sequel.”
However, work was put on hold after Sony Pictures executive Amy Pascal revealed that Spider-Man 4 was taking a break amid the writers’ strike.

Spider-Man 4 Pause Confirmed by Tom Holland
Tom Holland revealed to Variety that the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike forced the cancellation of production on Spider-Man 4.
According to Holland, the talks he “had” about the project were “put on hold in solidarity with the writers”:
“I am not allowed to discuss it, but I can confirm that we have met. In favor of the writers, we have stopped the meetings. Although there have been many conversations, they are still in the early stages.
The WGA strike is far from over, which means negotiations between the star, Sony Pictures, and Marvel Studios for Spider-Man 4 have been on hold for a considerable period of time.
A release date for Spider-Man 4 has yet to be confirmed, but if these discussions persist, it’s possible the studios could move the date up as originally planned.
A release date of July 12, 2024, was previously reported for Wall Crawling; However, given the delay in production (and how closely it follows Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts), that no longer seems likely.
Right now, the 2024 release date for Tom Holland’s next cyber intervention movie seems pretty far-fetched.
Perhaps Spider-Man 4 will release in 2025 on one of the MCU’s open-ended release dates.
Due to the WGA delay, the film will be released later that year, on November 7, 2025, although the studios are trying to release the film on the already vacant date of July 26, 2025.
Tom Holland and the Spider-Man 4 team now have no choice but to wait for the writers’ labor dispute to be resolved, as do most of Hollywood.
