Producer of Spider-Verse 2 Confirms TWO Opponents in the Follow-Up

The Spot won’t be the only antagonist for Miles Morales’ Spider-Man in the upcoming Across the Spider-Verse, according to the film’s producers.

In contrast to Kingpin, who Miles had to contend with in his previous adventure, Spot will be the protagonist’s next adversary. Many people have never taken the character seriously in the source material, and he has never succeeded in being accepted as one of Spider-true Man’s foes.

The character’s skills (he can conjure inter-dimensional portals out of thin air) have been improved this time. The once-joke villain now poses a serious threat to the Multiverse as a whole.

But he won’t be the only one causing Miles problems; in fact, there will be another Spider-Person who will add to the chaos.

Producers of Across the Spider-Verse Phil Lord and Chris Miller discussed Miles Morales’ current situation in the new film while also revealing that there will be two antagonists in the picture.

Although he’s not the movie’s antagonist, Miles will likely face some opposition from Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099. The new Spider-Variant, also known as Miguel O’Hara, won’t be agreeing with Miles very often.

Miles and Manuel “think that what they’re doing is the right thing,” according to Miller, who went on to say:

He isn’t the main antagonist of the film, but he serves as Miles’ sort of rival because they both believe what they are doing is right.

Jason Schwartzman’s Spot, who the two producers describe as “a perfect character for animation,” is the other antagonist and the true big bad of the narrative.

Lord went on to explain why he enjoys it when the antagonist acts as “sort of a dark mirror of the protagonist”:

“When a villain portrays the hero’s journey as a kind of dark mirror, I find that to be the best. And I believe Spot is the same. He desires to be taken seriously. He’s a silly-costumed character who isn’t always regarded as one of Spider-greatest Man’s enemies, but like everyone else, he wants to be taken seriously.”

Miller affirmed that Miles Morales is “[spreading] his rings and leaving the nest” as a young adult and stated the following:

“As he gets older, he tries to figure out how he can leave the nest, travel the world, and spread his wings. But he also feels firmly connected to his house and his loved ones. When you’re a teenager, you go through a push-pull in which you wonder, “How do I become my own person without forgetting who I am?”

What Other Characters Will Miles Meet in Across the Spider-Verse?

It was only a matter of time before Miles encountered someone with whom he might butt heads more than once, given that the series explores a variety of Spider-People. But why might Miles disagree so strongly with Miguel’s plans and decisions?

Given the threat that Spot poses to everyone, is it possible that Spider-Man 2099 just wants to kill him?

Miguel O’Hara is a much more serious Spidey, and he also commands “a band of fighters” to put an end to the collider explosion from the first movie, as was previously confirmed. In fact, 2099 probably considers Morales’ actions to be extremely reckless, which makes him disapprove of the main character.

There will be more villains that appear, just like in the first movie. The original film included a different Doc Ock and Scorpion in addition to Kingpin.

A version of the Vulture from Spider-Woman’s (Jessica Drew) dimension will be at least one of those villains this time around, as seen in the most recent trailer. In the finished film, there will probably be more unexpected appearances.
