Per Marvel Head, Vin Diesel’s Groot Salary Report Has Been Refuted

James Gunn has refuted a rumor about Vin Diesel’s push for the role of Groot in the MCU.

In every appearance the character has made since his film debut in Guardians of the Galaxy, including the character’s brief cameo in Ralph Breaks the Internet, Diesel has voiced him as the anthropomorphic tree.

Diesel only used the words “I am Groot” (or “We are Groot” on one memorable occasion), but every time he spoke, the actors playing the people who were meant to understand him were given scripts with each English translation.

Deisel’s position as Groot is important to the MCU as a whole, though not necessarily as action-packed as other stars’ roles in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Guardians trilogy director James Gunn has refuted a claim made on Twitter that Vin Diesel earned a total of $54 million for his role as Groot in the MCU.

Jean only replied, “Not true,” refusing to say that the actor, who has barely spoken five lines in his many appearances thus far, is paid approximately $13 million per film.

For reference, Forbes reports that Robert Downey Jr. received $20 million in upfront compensation after Avengers: Endgame, excluding contractual cuts at the box office.

According to Forbes, Paul Rudd received an advance of about $8 million, along with Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth.

This will likely be the final look for Diesel’s beloved tree since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marks the end of Guardians in a way.

Diesel, who originated the role, has voiced Groot in all versions of him, from Baby Groot to the upcoming “Alpha Groot” in Guardians 3.

But given that the team is definitely falling apart as things seem, and given the very grim fate of Groot’s best friend Rocket, it’s possible that Alpha Groot could be a sendoff for Groot.
