The biggest star in the movie claims that Thor: Ragnarok and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania are both MCU epics.
Only a few weeks remain till the release of the Paul Rudd-starring Marvel Studios blockbuster, and much is being said about how unique this Ant-Man movie is.
Ant-Man 3 has been touted as taking a “hard left turn” for the Ant-Man franchise, coming off “a little darker” than the previous two films, since Ant-Man and The Wasp were played as straight comedy (something that probably impacted Ragnarok’s radical tonal shift for Thor).
But how could Ant-Man 3 be influenced by one of the funniest MCU films if it is leaving comedy in the rearview? Paul Rudd claims that it is.

Ant-Man 3 is emulating Thor 3.
Thor: Ragnarok had a significant influence on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, according to Paul Rudd in an interview with Empire Magazine.
According to the acclaimed actor, the team behind Quantumania noticed “something intriguing about creating something unexpected” when comparing it to what they accomplished for Ragnarok.
“I really didn’t have time to do it, but we continued to converse while it was being done. In “Thor: Ragnarok,” it was said, “Whoa, we can’t believe this is the third one, it feels so different.” That movie kept coming to mind. The idea of taking an unexpected action was enticing.
For the impending threequel, according to director Peyton Reed, they “wanted to really pivot into something on a much broader canvas”:
“We wanted to make a significant shift into something with a much bigger scope. Additionally, it went darker than you may anticipate.
The movie’s writer, Jeff Loveness, likens the whole event to an Avengers movie:
We initially discussed what would happen if Ant-Man inadvertently ends up in an Avengers film by himself.
Michael Douglas, Rudd’s Ant-Man co-star, commented that he could tell there was a change in tone for the series due to “how beat up [Rudd] would be” at the conclusion of each day of filming:
“At the end of the day, I’d visit Paul and notice how bruised and pained he was. This one has a more aggressive tone.
One Formula One movie at a Time: Transforming the MCU
It is amazing to see that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is still flexible after 30 movies and a lot of streaming shows. Ragnarok was a turning point for the series by demonstrating that not every hero or individual franchise within the MCU has to be one thing.
The Ant-Man 3 team and Peyton Reed could have sat back and made another Edgar Wright-style comedy for Quantumania, but they chose not to.
They decided to build something bigger instead. Something deserving of the entrance of Kang the Conqueror. A sort of Avengers 4.5.
These most recent statements are in keeping with a pattern of the movie’s producers advocating for its “dark and tough” storyline.
That does not mean there won’t be any laughter in the Ant-most Fam’s recent journey. Bill Murray and other comic greats are still included in the MCU blockbuster.
However, viewers can anticipate a movie that will take the Ant-Man concept to new heights.
