MCU: Blade Reboot Shooting Updated Due to Delay Fears

Despite widespread speculation that the MCU’s Blade will be delayed again more, an encouraging production update has emerged.

Blade, starring Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali, was first unveiled at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con.

Of course, the COVID-19 epidemic struck shortly after, forcing the entire Marvel slate to alter. Blade’s production was often delayed. Its original director left the project shortly after that, in the fall of 2022, further postponing things.

It appears that Marvel Studios is finally getting set to begin production.

The Hollywood Reporter recently reported that Blade actress Mia Goth will join the film’s production in June, implying that the Marvel film will have begun principal photography by then.

This confirms insider DanielRPK’s claim that Blade would begin filming on May 30.

Recently, Jeff Snieder claimed that the project was suffering pre-production troubles and could be postponed again.

On the March 9 episode of his podcast The Hot Mic, Sneider mentioned that Mahershala Ali wanted certain aspects of the picture to be carried out in a certain way, and he guessed that the actor’s requests were what could have been causing some behind-the-scenes trouble:

“In November, Blade received a new director. Here we are, five months later, with no casting update… Do you see where I’m heading with this? Two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali, two-time Academy Award winner, these folks want things done their way, right? And they carry the burden of getting their way, which sometimes causes delays.”

This recent THR story, on the other hand, appears to corroborate that everything is on track for Blade’s late-May debut.

Assuming that the MCU’s take on the character is faithful to the comics, Blade will revolve around Eric Brooks, the Daywalker. Blade, who has a half-human, half-vampire physiology, has all of a vampire’s strengths without any of its disadvantages, which means he is not harmed by sunlight.

On the subject of vampires, fans may be wondering how Marvel plans to include such otherworldly creatures in the MCU. Nonetheless, films like Werewolf by Night and She-Hulk have clearly demonstrated that otherworldly entities such as vampires are well-represented in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The upcoming Blade film from Marvel Studios is said to be a period piece set in the 1920s. This hasn’t been officially confirmed, but don’t worry; if true, Blade would be able to participate in any current MCU exploits due to his slower aging.

Apart from Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth, the film also stars Delroy Lindo, Milan Ray, and Aaron Pierre, though it is unclear which characters these actors will play.

For those wondering if Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman would appear in the film following the Eternals tease, recent speculations have put doubt on a role for the wielder of the Ebony Blade, although it remains to be seen if he appears.

The release date of Marvel Studios’ Blade has not been announced, however, it is widely assumed to occur somewhere in 2024.
