Data recently made public has confirmed which MCU films on Disney+ were the most popular in December 2022.
Many of the company’s most well-known franchises, including the ever-expanding MCU, have made Disney+ their streaming home since the platform’s introduction back in 2019.
The Marvel Studios films, both old and new, are just as popular with viewers and subscribers as the MCU’s Disney+ series and, more recently, Marvel Studios Special Presentations.
Disney+ users revealed which Marvel Studios films they preferred to watch throughout the Christmas season as Phase 4 drew to a conclusion at the end of 2022.
Marvel’s Top 6 Most Popular Films on Disney+ in December
The bulk of the most popular films on Disney+ last month were Marvel pictures, according to The Wrap.
This viewing information was generated by Parrot Analytics, which also takes into consideration social media, downloads, streaming, and other types of involvement.
The December favorites of Marvel fans are listed here, along with a few explanations for why they were so popular at the end of 2022.

1. Black Panther
While Black Panther is not a new release on Disney+, it was the second-most watched movie overall in December and the most-watched MCU picture on the service, drawing 46.65 times its usual audience.
Following the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the movie’s demand increased by 84 times, suggesting that the sequel is mostly to blame for the film’s current run of success.
When Black Panther 2 debuts on Disney+ on February 1, the first movie will soon have company and rivalry.
2. Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder was the second-most watched movie in the MCU canon, after Black Panther and Turning Red, on Disney+ last month.
Since Thor 4 received a mixed response in theatres, it appears that fans and others who missed the movie this summer watched it during the holidays since viewing was 34.13 times higher than usual.
It’s also important to note that, as of September 8, it is the most recent MCU movie available for viewing on Disney+.
3. Avengers: Endgame
Avengers: Endgame is the sixth-most-watched Disney+ movie overall in December.
The Phase 3 epic has been available on the platform since the streamer debuted in 2019, yet it’s still widely regarded as one of the best MCU episodes to date and a community favorite.
Maybe for that reason, it received 31.18 more views last month than usual. Who wouldn’t want to welcome in the holiday season or the New Year with the gateways scene from Endgame?
4. Deadpool
2016’s Deadpool, the first and only non-MCU Marvel movie on the list, generated 31.02 times its normal demand to rank as Disney+‘s seventh most-watched movie last month.
It’s interesting to note that it was also the fourth-most popular Marvel movie.
Although the movie originally debuted on Disney+ back in July, it’s safe to say that the news of Hugh Jackman‘s comeback and the ensuing barrage of press and interviews encouraged viewers to watch it again.
5. Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Infinity War has been on Disney+ since its debut and has retained its popularity with viewers, just like Black Panther and Endgame.
It seems fitting that Infinity War and Endgame are listed together because they complement one another. Endgame’s semi-happy conclusion, in contrast to Infinity War’s lack of one, maybe the single factor that helped it surpass Infinity War for ninth place overall.
6. Eternals
Surprisingly, Marvel Studios’ Eternals was the tenth most-watched movie in December.
Upon its release in 2021, the Chloe Zhao ensemble was seen as ambitious but polarising, and it has had that reputation ever since. However, as Phase 4 comes to a close, fans are probably watching the movie again while others were able to see it over the holidays.
Even if it might be enough to explain the increase in demand, there has also been talked of a sequel and previous MCU shows have made references to the movie’s events.
While Black Panther was the most-watched MCU movie on Disney+ in the previous month, James Cameron‘s original Avatar took the top spot.
In addition to the fact that Avatar: The Way of Water debuted in December, the fact that the first movie is 13 years old was probably a factor in the demand for it being 63.28 times higher than typical.
In addition to holiday favorites like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Turning Red made the list as previously mentioned.
Just two Phase 4 MCU movies?
Even though some people could argue that people are sick of Marvel movies, the statistics from Disney+ beg to differ.
The appeal of the red brand and its importance to Disney+ aren’t the only stories this data can tell, though.
Again, Black Panther‘s performance is understandable given the November release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as is Thor: Love and Thunder given that it is the final release from Marvel Studios.
It’s interesting to note that the two Phase 4 movies with recent strong demand were Thor 4 and, oddly, Eternals.
The movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which didn’t come out until May 2022, wasn’t there.
This may serve as yet another indicator of Phase 4’s unfavorable response.
Moving forward, the question is if Phase 5 can do better and whether other MCU movies will see a surge in rewatches after the studio’s 2023 slate.
Maybe the next Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Captain Marvel movies will win a seat in December?
Time will only tell. However, it is currently evident that Marvel is still Disney+’s most coveted franchise and that it is a popular pick throughout the Christmas season.
