Marvel Teases Pregnant Spider-Woman in 2023 Film

The most recent trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has made Issa Rae’s take on Marvel’s Spider-Woman known.

Issa Rae’s casting as Jessica Drew, a.k.a. Spider-Woman, in the upcoming animated sequel was officially announced in 2021. In addition, Denis Hopeless’ portrayal of the character, in who she was pregnant, would have a big impact on the character’s development.

Other than the fact that viewers would get to meet the Vulture of her universe, nothing else about her character has been revealed since.

Finally, we can see what the movie did with Jessica Drew, and to put it mildly, it’s quite interesting.

More than a few Spidey Variants make their debut in the two-minute new trailer that Sony just released for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

One of them is Issa Rae’s portrayal of Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman:

She makes her on-screen debut in this trailer, and as she charges into battle, she also happens to be pregnant:

Although her overall function in the film is unclear, the image of her with Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 seems to suggest that she will play a more significant role than many of the other Spider-People seen in the trailer:

Additionally, the trailer offers a fantastic quick glimpse of Drew facing off against her Vulture:

Without a doubt, this Jessica Drew differs greatly from the character she plays in comic books.

Visually, the character has undergone significant changes for those who are familiar with Drew. She wears the same kind of uniform, but this time, the color of the hero’s skin has been altered, and she has a respectable Afro—likely in an effort to better fit the actress who plays her.

One particularly intriguing detail is the Spider-ability Woman’s to shoot web from her fingertips, which is also how Cindy Moon’s Silk, another Spider-Man character, does it.

Funny enough, Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman, the most well-known version of the character, has no real connection to Spider-Man in the comics. She can therefore shoot webs, which is a novel idea for the character.

The real query is how much of a part will she have. Given her opportunity with Spidey 2099 and Issa Rae’s selection, she’ll probably play a significant part in defending the Spider-Verse from Spot, the antagonist of the franchise’s upcoming two films.
