Actor Revealed as Marvel Studios’ Second Choice for MCU’s Vulture

Even though Michael Keaton did a fantastic job as the MCU’s Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming, a veteran performer revealed that Marvel Studios nearly cast him in the Tom Holland-led solo film’s role as the Marvel villain.

Michael Keaton made his Spider-Man: Homecoming debut as Adrian Toomes, a ruthless foe to Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man. Despite the fact that the web-slinger ultimately defeated Keaton’s MCU antagonist, the character made a triumphant comeback in Morbius, possibly paving the way for a future evil alliance.

Fans are anticipating Vulture’s eventual comeback and potential future expansion into more prominent roles, but it appears that Keaton almost skipped his Marvel debut in the 2017 MCU film.

The MCU’s Vulture Was Almost Played by John Leguizamo

MCU's Vulture

John Leguizamo, who plays Adrian Toomes in the film Violent Night, revealed to Comicbook.com that he nearly played the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming alongside Tom Holland.

According to the actor, Marvel Studios instructed him to renounce the part because Michael Keaton “wanted it back”:

“The Vulture was supposed to be me. We had reached an agreement, and I was about to play him when they asked me to give it up because Michael Keaton wanted it back. Well, okay, I guess, I replied. No, we’ll work with you again, we’re going to, they responded. That is what took place there.

Leguizamo was given a follow-up role by Marvel, but he declined it because it was “something tiny:”

They offered me a tiny item, but I said, “Nuh uh.”

John Leguizamo: Will He Join the MCU?

MCU's Vulture

It’s unfortunate that John Leguizamo, a talented actor, was unable to join the MCU for Spider-Man: Homecoming. According to the actor’s remarks, he was reportedly approached for the part of Mac Gargan (also known as Scorpion), but Michael Mando ultimately played the character in the movie.

Despite this, it’s possible that Leguizamo will still be considered for a part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), especially since this is the MCU’s era of expansion. The bravado and prodigious talent of Leguizamo would be a great asset to the interconnected franchise.

What roles, though, could Leguizamo play? Leguizamo might still end up playing one of Peter Parker’s antagonists, like Hammerhead or Morlun, given that the actor was initially considered for a role in the Spider-Man universe.

Whatever the case, it’s reasonable to assume that Leguizamo still has ambitions to participate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will hopefully do so soon.
