Marvel Studios receives six Oscar nominations for 2022.

Marvel Studios has received several Oscar nominations for next year.

In general, the Oscars and superhero movies do not get along. Audiences have long suspected that the Academy fosters a bias against popular genres, which rarely results in anything more than token nominations that go nowhere.

The MCU has won before, with Black Panther winning Oscars for Best Costume Design, Production Design, and Original Score in 2018.

As the year 2022 approaches, Disney and Marvel have begun to campaign for Oscar nominations for films such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Can Marvel Studios, however, win more Oscars at next year’s ceremony?

Probabilities for Marvel Studios

Simply put, there is a good chance that Wakanda Forever will take home a trophy in at least one category. The sequel is likely to win at least one Oscar given the track record of its predecessor at the ceremony as well as the unusual and heartbreaking situation the movie is in.

In the Best Costume and Best Production Design categories, where Black Panther 2 ought to have been nominated and won, these pre-nominations omitted it.

However, the MCU or any other film has almost no chance of surpassing Avatar: The Way of Water in terms of best visual effects.

Both Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder are unlikely to win any awards, especially given the mixed, and occasionally downright unfavorable, reviews they have received.

These are not the final nominations, so not all of the projects listed under each category will be competing for that award in March.
