The debut of Loki season 2 will mark a significant break from Marvel Studios’ usual Disney+ release schedule.
On Fridays, new episodes of all the best Disney+ shows debut, including The Mandalorian, WandaVision, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
When Loki shifted its weekly releases to Wednesdays in June 2021, that pattern was broken, and it’s stayed on the regular schedule ever since.

Marvel Renews Loki Season 2 Release Schedule
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said during Disney’s Upfront 2023 event that Loki season 2 will debut on October 6, marking a significant change from the MCU’s previous Disney+ release plan.
While Disney+ typically releases new episodes of Marvel, Star Wars, and other original shows on Wednesdays, this release date sees the Tom Hiddleston-directed season premiere its first episode on a Friday.
The one exception to this rule might be Obi-Wan Kenobi, which aired a two-episode premiere on Friday, May 27, which could be used over Memorial Day weekend in 2022.
Similarly, Loki Season 2’s Friday, October 6 release date coincides with the Columbus Day holiday weekend, showing that the change was made in an attempt to capitalize on people not going to work and watching TV at home.
If Loki follows Obi-Wan Kenobi’s lead, the show will resume its run on Wednesday, a few days after the season premiere, with Episode 2 airing on Wednesday, October 11.
Echo, Marvel Studios’ next project after Loki season 2, will make its landmark six-episode debut on Wednesday, November 29, signaling that the move to a Friday release will rarely happen.
With the sixth and final episode scheduled to air on November 10, the same day The Marvel’s opens in theaters, the season-long Friday release schedule makes the decision to return to Wednesdays even more obvious. It’s unlikely that Marvel Studios would want to risk hiding another one.
Why does Loki season 2 start on a Friday?
If Loki moves to Wednesdays and airs one episode each week, his six-episode series will end with an epic climax on November 8. That would put the end two days later for The Marvels, but it would also give a comfortable three-week window for Echo’s November 29 release.
The conclusion of Loki season 2 will be an epic and momentous one that will spark a lot of conversations due to how closely it ties in with the Kang setting of Jonathan Major and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Why would Marvel Studios want to schedule Captain Marvel 2 two days before everyone’s attention?
The Obi-Wan Kenobi scenario became a two-episode debut when it was moved to Memorial Day weekend. Marvel Studios may choose to implement a similar strategy to give fans more entertainment during that holiday and separate the week of The Marvels Loki season 2 finale.
It wouldn’t be unusual for the MCU to have a two-episode premiere, as the studio previously released two episodes of WandaVision and Hawkeye on the days in question of their respective debuts. Since the announcements of the double episode premieres were made closer to release time, fans shouldn’t expect to hear anything about it until September, if that happens.
