Director Peyton Reed of Ant-Man Quantumania dug into the second post-credits scene of the movie, which featured an MCU veteran before his subsequent appearance.
In the second post-credits sequence of Ant-Man 3, Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki and Jonathan Majors’ Kang had a raucous reunion. This was their second encounter since the God of Mischief and He Who Remains first crossed paths in Loki Season 1.
At this moment, Majors‘ sixth leading Variant of Kang, Victor Timely, revealed the extent of the Multiversal villain’s impending menace while Owen Wilson’s Mobius and Hiddleston‘s antihero were in the audience.
Fans are eager to see what Loki Season 2 will bring to the Multiverse Saga after the warrior variant of Kang made an appearance in Ant-Man 3.

Peyton Reed on the Ant-Man Quantumania scene with Loki
Director Peyton Reed discussed Loki’s appearance in the Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania post-credits scene in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Reed lauded Jonathan Majors‘ performance as Victor Timely in the MCU, praising his “Frederick Douglass hair” (a reference to a well-known fugitive slave and abolitionist from the late 1800s) and the way he personified everything from that period in time:
“Well, clearly, that is Victor Timely. As they were filming it, I was swept away by the set, and I absolutely adored his Frederick Douglass hair, his entire look from the time period, the intonation of his voice, and everything.”
He also talked about how thrilling it was to hint to the audience just how many Kang Variants will appear in the Multiverse Saga:
The purpose of saying things like, “In Phase 5, you’re going to encounter a lot of various varieties,” was essentially only to tease the audience.
As the MCU shifts toward more Multiversal tales, and specifically, with how Loki Season 2 was being planned, he also observed how much sense it made to employ Kang in this way:
“It made sense to somewhat adapt [Kang] for that since the MCU has been moving toward these Multiversal storylines. That made sense from the very beginning when they were creating Loki and we were creating this film because it fit with what was going to happen in Loki .”
Reed also discussed the sequence with IndieWire, revealing that it comes straight from Loki Season 2 and once more praising Majors for his performance and the style he created for the role:
“It’s a scene from “Loki” Season 2, and Victor Timely is yet another comic book alter ego. I adore Jonathan’s appearance, as well as his somewhat vintage voice and Frederick Douglass-style hair. Just another hint of, “OK, there are all these varieties, and here’s maybe the next one you might encounter” could be seen in that scenario. That was a concept we liked.”
Reed linked this Loki scene to one from 2015’s Ant-Man, which hinted at Scott Lang’s involvement in Captain America: Civil War, thinking back to his work on the first Ant-Man film:
“We tried something similar in the first “Ant-Man,” when the first tag scene introduced Hope seeing the suit before she was about to put it on. Then there was a little clip from “Captain America: Civil War,” which naturally implied that Ant-Man will make a comeback. Yet, it was entertaining since it served as a sort of prelude to all the possible crazy Jonathans you would see along the journey.”
When The Hollywood Reporter asked Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness if he had a hand in crafting the scene, he simply stated that there was an “overarching narrative” that the Ant-Man crew adhered to:
“not writing directly. There is a recurring theme in our conversations with them. But no, that crew had already been working on their material, and it will undoubtedly play a part in upcoming motion pictures. But, I scripted the mid-credits scene, which teases Kang’s upcoming presence. As a result, I haven’t yet written for Owen Wilson. Possibly someday. (Laughs)”
Loki Prepared for Post-Ant-Man 3 MCU Comeback
As Loki first interacted with Kang in Loki Season 1, it is not particularly surprising to see the God of Mischief in this Ant-Man 3 encounter. Also, it carries on Peyton Reed’s tradition of establishing significant plotlines for upcoming MCU films, as he did for Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
Although Jonathan Majors will play several other characters in the future season of Loki, Victor Timely appears to play a crucial part in opposing Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson.
According to rumors, the Summer 2023 series will follow a variety of Kang Variants causing havoc across the Multiverse as Loki and Mobius struggle to understand what they’re up against. Ant-Man 3 will, even more, serve as a stepping stone for everything coming in the Multiverse Saga, especially with Loki Season 2 paving the way for next episodes like Deadpool 3 and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
