The upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will feature a new power upgrade for Karen Gillan’s MCU character Nebula.
Nebula’s improved arm is one of the characters highlighted in numerous promotional materials for the third movie of the Guardians franchise, which promises advances for many of the fan favorites characters.
While a robotic arm may not seem like much, Nebula’s bionic body parts play a significant role in her past because her father, Thanos, altered her anatomy whenever she lost a battle to her sister, Gamora.
Therefore, an upgrade to these bionics might represent an emotional turning away from the abuse in her past – a character development Gillan has spoken of. According to rumors, the forthcoming movie may even center on the sisterly bond that initially led to the cybernetic replacements being placed all over Nebula’s body.

More Strength for Nebula’s Improved Arm
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Nebula’s already-improved arm was suddenly made clear to be even more formidable than initially appears, with its newly featured ability to convert into a blaster.
Although Nebula’s improved arm has already been seen in stills in the first Guardians 3 teaser, a new promotional video for the film provides a glance at the arm’s new powers.
Nebula is seen firing an energy burst from a circular hole in her arm at the 12-second mark of the new video, which now resembles a potent blaster weapon.
Fans will recognize the improved arm’s tendril-covered, chain-like appearance from the blaster, but it has been given a bright orange glow.
The MCU character Nebula, played by Karen Gillan, shared a clip of this explosion from the footage from @brkarengillan with the caption “New arm who dis? #nebula.”
A Nebula Symbolic Power Upgrade
Nebula’s artificial body parts, which literally reflect the cruelty she endured as Thanos’ daughter, serve a symbolic purpose in the hero’s past, as was already revealed.
If the trailers are any indication, the impact of such non-consensual body modification could be a focus of Guardians 3 given the apparent attention on Rocket Raccoon’s history, which seems to strongly include it.
It would make sense to include a discussion about Nebula’s illustrious past and how that influences who she is today, especially because the movie is creating multiple backstories and seems to be delving into the tragedy behind the fan-favorite Guardians of the Galaxy.
