Kang, the next big bad, will get a Thanos-sized promise from Marvel Studios.

Marvel Studios has promised that Kang the Conqueror won’t be too similar to the Mad Titan from the Infinity Saga, despite the fact that Josh Brolin’s Thanos left a significant mark on the MCU.

It’s challenging to emerge from Thanos’ shadow. After all, when it comes to the most well-known and admired bad guy in popular culture, Brolin’s villain rivals Darth Vader in addition to becoming an instant classic.

When questioned about how his Kang will contrast with Thanos, Majors said he tries to avoid drawing parallels between the characters. It’s a whole different world, [his] assignment is different, and the character of Kang is different, the actor continued.

Given that a Marvel Studios executive has now pledged to completely original Kang, it appears that Majors and the studio are on the same page.

An Agreement with Kang the Conqueror

In an interview with Total Film, Stephen Broussard, VP of Production & Development at Marvel Studios and a member of Parliament, made a significant commitment regarding Kang’s future.

Jonathan Majors’ portrayal of Kang the Conqueror, who would be “different” and “very fresh” from Thanos and have an “ongoing presence” throughout the Infinity Saga, was promised by the studio, according to Broussard:

“[Kang] is very strong, very formidable, and will undoubtedly continue to be present, much like Thanos in the stories, in ways that are distinct from Thanos and feel very novel to us,”

Additionally, the executive spoke about how they wanted Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum to be more than just a “palette cleanser”:

Producer Stephen Broussard comments to Total Film in the latest issue of the magazine, “Coming after the Avengers movies, phrases like ‘palate cleanser’ had been thrown around about the Ant-Man movies. But things are different this time. “[We felt] that if we have a chance to make part three, we want the movie to be big and feel important to the MCU’s future.”

What Distinguishes Thanos from Kang?

Thanos
Marvel Studios

Kang has only been seen by audiences once, but he already seems very different from Thanos.

For starters, he’s just a man—one who has already been introduced to the public and will make several significant appearances before the Avengers decide to make him their main focus. Fans can expect to see him again in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where he’ll play the main bad guy.

Before Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos was only mentioned briefly.

Additionally, viewers will become familiar with a number of different Kang variations, which will enable them to constantly see the character from a fresh perspective. For Thanos, however, it was essentially the same character throughout—which isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it’s just different, which is what Marvel Studios wants.

Fans haven’t yet been dissatisfied by Jonathan Majors’ villain. Hopefully, he stays like that for the remainder of his time in the MCU.
