While Jonathan Majors‘ portrayal of Kang the Conqueror received a lot of attention in Ant-Man 3, the threequel’s writer, Jeff Loveness, revealed that “there was a lot more Kang” left on the cutting room floor.
When Loveness revealed which Kang-centric moments were intended to be in Ant-Man 3 but weren’t, the movie continued to create news after its release.
However, Loveness observed that those scenes were “probably better suited” for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The MCU writer acknowledged that backstory segments that fully fleshed out Kang were cut from the movie.
The villain’s other, considerably creepier designs were also ultimately rejected.

Why Was Kang’s Backstory Removed from Ant-Man 3?
Author of Ant-Man 3 Jeff Loveness discussed Kang the Conqueror’s deleted scenes from the threequel in an interview with Backstory Magazine.
The writer of Avengers 5 acknowledged that he had “plenty” of ideas, adding that “several” of them were centered on Kang and that he would use them in The Kang Dynasty: A Star Wars Story.
“Well, there are lots. There was a lot more Kang in a variety of ways, so I might utilize some of these for “Kang.” I’m not sure how much I can reveal because some of it will only appear in “Avengers.”
Loveness also acknowledged that the pacing of Ant-Man and The Wasp “might have slowed” as a result of the moments focusing on Kang’s history. Quantumania:
“There was a lot more Kang lore and backstory that wasn’t included because it could have been distracting or better suited for an Avengers film. Who defeated him? What took place? What happens when fifty Julius Caesars murdered Julius Caesar? was the general pitch. Although I do think that is extremely cool, I do believe that it could have delayed the movie’s pacing.”
Loveness also stated in a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter that they changed the movie’s ending from Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne becoming trapped in the Quantum Realm to avoid rehashing a story point from 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
“All of that was discussed, and on paper, it appeared exciting. Yet at the end of the day, we would be replicating the final beat from the previous “Ant-Man” film. Also, there weren’t many alternatives to “Endgame” to choose from. If Scott is locked in the Quantum Realm, as he is in the final scene of the previous film, the only way out is for him to escape there, as he does in “Endgame.”
The Necessity for Kang’s History in Avengers 5
Although it’s disappointing that fans didn’t get an early look at Kang’s past, Jeff Loveness pointed out that those moments would have been better suited in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
This would be appropriate given that the MCU screenwriter has previously stated that Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, is the predictable main character of Avengers 5. Kang has already been described as having “got to be his own hero” as he embarks on his own mission throughout the Multiverse by Loveness.
The scenes might show Kang’s fascination with the Multiverse, which eventually led to scenes showing him conquering other planets and earning the moniker “Conqueror.”
Fans will be able to comprehend Kang’s intentions before his eventual conflict with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes by learning about Kang’s past, no matter how bizarre it might seem.
