Jonathan Majors explained why he chose to play Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new bad guy will be the MCU’s main antagonist throughout the Multiverse Saga, following Josh Brolin’s Thanos.
But how can Majors ever compete with Thanos? For one thing, as previously stated by the actor, “[his] assignment is different, and the character of Kang is different.” So it appears that the man behind the Conqueror isn’t afraid of feeling repetitive or living up to the legacy of the Mad Titan.
Jonathan Majors’ goal for suiting up as the Marvel antagonist is to make his own mark on the MCU.

The goal for Kang by Jonathan Majors
Jonathan Majors, who played the evil Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, spoke about the role in an interview with Nerdbunker.
His main objective with Kang, as well as with every role he plays, “is to make them as universal and human as possible,” was one of the first details he revealed.
“With Kang, I believe my goal with every role I play is to make them as relatable and human as I can. I believe it would be fortunate for these upcoming phases to feature a major antagonist that also enables the spectators to alternate between applauding and jeering.”
Jonathan Majors praised Josh Brolin’s portrayal of Thanos, praising how “three-dimensional” the actor made the character:
“In order to make it very clear and show that he truly believed in it, Josh Brolin tried to make Thanos as three-dimensional as he could. This is what Josh Brolin did with Thanos so beautifully. Because of this, I believe it was morally murky how bad he really is. Additionally, I believe that the more anti-hero you are and the more villainous you are, the stronger your constitution needs to be.”
He continued by saying that he “might be the luckiest actor” as a result of his role as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
“Acting-wise, it’s a lot of fun because, you know, I don’t just play Kang in the world. I’ve got a lot of other things going on, including movies and projects, which is great because it gives me a chance to work in different settings. It’s really exciting stuff, and you may be thinking, “Okay, I wonder how we can—because, you know, in my world, where are they different from one another and where are they similar?” I think I’m the most fortunate actor there is.”
What Will Kang Do Differently Than Thanos?
Many fans have undoubtedly been impressed by Jonathan Majors’ outspoken advocacy for Kang.
Additionally, he exhibits a keen awareness of the expectations that come with trying to live up to Josh Brolin’s legendary portrayal of Thanos and the shadow that it has cast.
Although Majors’s antagonist may have made his or her debut in Loki, the character will really make its debut in Quantumania. It will no longer be the He Who Remains who advocates for peace; the Conqueror should now come out and have some fun.
The actor will be able to explore the villain on a very deep level, which Brolin was in some ways simply unable to do with what he was given because of his ability to embody so many different variations of the same character.
What would be really cool is if Marvel Studios imagined a scenario in which Kang and Thanos, played by Jonathan Majors and Josh Brolin, could interact. Fortunately, a film event like Avengers: Secret Wars creates countless opportunities for Marvel Studios to do anything they might desire.
