James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, recently gave an encouraging update on potential future sequels to the series.
Finally, Gunn’s cosmic sprawl trilogy has come to an end. Sadly, the project has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of the three Guardians movies, even if some critics and fans did like it.
Gunn has long heralded the impending trilogy as his final appearance with the cast of the same name and perhaps even Marvel Studios as a whole. But does this mean Guardians of the Galaxy 4 won’t be released?

Guardians of the Galaxy 4: Will It Happen?
James Gunn, writer-director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, gave a positive outlook for future installments of the mega series during an interview with Esquire Middle East.
While the director doesn’t think “Volume 4” will follow the same cast as Vols. 1-3, it is believed that there may be a fourth Guardians of the Galaxy movie:
I don’t think ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 4’ will ever be released, “There are several reasons why this gang is not coming back.” The Guardians franchise can continue, but not with this cast.
Jean confirmed that she would “love to see” and support a fourth film, as long as a new behind-the-camera voice “comes on board”:
“I think it can be really beautiful as long as someone puts themselves into it and doesn’t just try to replicate that style. And I’d like to do that with a lot of different filmmakers. And that’s something I really hope will happen.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy’s Future
Warning: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 spoilers are present in the remainder of this article.
The strangest thing about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the way each actor approaches the role as if it’s their last chance to play it.
Except for Chris Pratt, who recently said he’d be back, as long as the next project honors James Gunn’s work on “the first three movies.”
Zoe Saldana stated, however, that “this is the end [of her], for Gamora.” Her character is still alive and involved, albeit with a different gang of Ravagers, as the film comes to a close.
Each character in the film is positioned in a way that they can, and should, naturally continue to work in more Marvel Studios films in the future. If this entire group had never appeared in the MCU, it would be weird and pointless.
After all, the ending of volume 3 clearly establishes a new team, which will inevitably get embroiled in major cosmic trouble. One of the newcomers is Phyla-Vell, Moondragon’s love interest, and daughter of Drax.
She seems like the perfect method to retrieve at least one original Guardian.
