Did Marvel Just Predict One Major Death in Guardians of the Galaxy 3?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s first trailer may have hinted at the impending demise of one of the team’s longest-serving members.

After making their live-action Disney+ debut to close Phase 4 in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Star-Lord, Drax, Groot, and the rest of the Guardians will return to action in May 2023 for their third solo film together.

However, since this is director James Gunn’s final MCU project before relocating permanently to DC, he has made it abundantly clear that not everyone will survive the threequel.

The team is actually in danger as a result of the High Evolutionary, according to the first trailer for the movie, which debuted in early December 2022.

And while it’s still unknown who specifically might be in line for an unfortunate conclusion to their story in Guardians 3, the first official footage from the Phase 5 outing might contain a crucial hint.

Drax Line: A Death Snare for Guardians 3?

Fans may have seen a scene between Drax and Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 first trailer’s final scene that hinted at Drax’s potential demise by the film’s conclusion.

Quill responds that they won’t actually kill anyone in response to Drax’s threat to “kill anyone who gets in (their) way)” made by Dave Bautista’s character in the film.

And we’ll kill anyone who stands in our way, said Drax.

“No,” says Peter Quill, “we won’t kill anyone.”

Kill a few people, said Drax.

Then he says that “one stupid guy who no one loves” ought to be killed.

Given that Drax has been viewed as less intelligent than the other Guardians due to his misinterpretation of some phrases, could this line be a premonition of Drax’s demise? Drax is also one of the less well-liked Guardians, so it makes sense that he would say that “no one loves” this particular idiot.

All of this may point to the possibility that Drax dies in Vol. 3:

Drax: “Take out one man. One stupid character that no one likes.

“No, you’re just making it sad,” said Peter Quill.

When compared to Star-Lord, Rocket, and other members of the team when considering the Guardians from a real-world perspective in the fandom, Drax isn’t typically one of the most talked-about characters. Drax has only recently had the opportunity to truly stand out on his own as a character, despite the fact that the raw data from the previous few years has sung a different tune. This is thanks to the Guardians’ Holiday Special.

And while it’s impossible to predict with certainty whether Drax will meet a brutal end in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there are clues that give fans reason to think so.

Kurt Russell’s character Ego from the 2017 film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 acknowledged that he was the one who killed Peter Quill’s mother by implanting a cancer tumor on her brain. This turned out to be a sort of foreshadowing for the final act of the film when Ego was eliminated by having a bomb dropped directly on his brain, much like Meredith Quill did when she lost her battle with brain cancer.

If Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 isn’t his final appearance with Marvel, Bautista has also stated that he doesn’t anticipate playing Drax for very long after that.

The Guardians are facing their toughest challenges yet, so logically speaking, any one of the team members is seriously in danger of losing their life. But if Drax’s statement is any indication, the team’s metaphorically challenged fighter may not have a good future.
