Ryan Reynolds Makes a Significant Promise to Wolverine In Deadpool 3

In Deadpool 3, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will link up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and he has made a pledge that should ease fans’ concerns.

While Reynolds and Jackman’s announcement of Deadpool and Wolverine’s alliance in the threequel broke the internet, there were some qualms from Marvel aficionados, especially after 2017’s Logan wrapped up the X-Men hero’s tale with a stunning arc.

Given that nobody “wanted to play with” Logan’s ending, Jackman has previously stated that Deadpool 3 will take place before its events.

Reynolds will now provide new information regarding Wolverine’s thrilling comeback.

Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, discussed how Deadpool 3 will handle Hugh Jackman’s comeback as Wolverine in an interview with The Wrap.

Reynolds believes that the “collision” of Deadpool and Wolverine will be worth the wait despite acknowledging that the threequel’s tone will be a “tightrope walk”:

“I believe we are walking a tightrope. In this case, however, you have a collision of two really iconic characters that live in the Marvel Ancillary Universe [laughs] — we’re in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point. I mean most of these movies are always a tightrope walk of tone.

Reynolds assured that viewers would see a Deadpool and Wolverine who “feels very authentic” when asked about the tone of the film.

Finding a way to serve both of these characters that feels incredibly true to them is really a challenge, and I believe these two wrongs will actually make a right in a fairly fantastic way.

Reynolds’ remarks confirmed what co-writer of Deadpool 3 Rhett Reese had said earlier about Marvel Studios enabling them to “do what we do”:

“It almost feels like donning a cozy old sweater. Marvel has really supported us in keeping the tenor and the overall vision that we have for it. They have been really helpful and hands-off, but they have also allowed us to do what we do. In essence, it’s just been enjoyable. We’re back to being crazy scientists in the lab. We are extremely appreciative that we have the opportunity to write Deadpool once more because he is our favorite and the character we will always be most closely linked with. Thus, it’s great. It is comparable to returning to school after a summer break. It’s a lot of fun.”

Reynolds has previously made a comment about preserving Wolverine’s reputation.

The actor originally shared his delight about working with Jackman on Deadpool 3 while appearing as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon:

Fallon: “You and Hugh are collaborating on Deadpool 3.”

Reynolds: “I agree. Sure, I am. I’m ecstatic about that. It’s impossible that that is happening.

Then he pledged to “fully defend Logan’s legacy in the manner in which it was left off:

Fallon: “That’s so enjoyable. However, Wolverine—whom he’s bringing—

Reynolds: “Yeah, I’m bringing in Wolverine. Hugh Jackman and Kevin Feige approved of the solution we came up with, and it totally preserves Logan’s history and continues where it left off. With that, we wouldn’t tamper. And I’m quite enthusiastic about it. As I’ve grown older, I’ve sort of wanted to say that I’m lucky to work in this field and especially fortunate to have worked in it for this long. But I truly want to work with people who are either extraordinarily skilled or who I love and consider to be my best friends. Hugh, regrettably, does not fit either of those descriptions. However, I am thrilled because I am a fan of Logan.

How Will Wolverine’s Legacy Be Safeguarded in Deadpool 3?

Given that Hugh Jackman portrayed Wolverine for an illustrious run in Fox’s X-Men movies, Ryan Reynolds’ pledge to preserve the character’s heritage is extremely appropriate.

Making this happen would require a concerted effort from the entire cast, including Shawn Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman as well as the film’s excellent writers.

Reynolds’ claim that he would be “extraordinarily accurate” in his portrayal of Wolverine hints that the character will be the same as in previous renditions, but with a new component that would fit in with the MCU.

The “angrier, caustic, grumpy” Wolverine that fans have come to know and love will return, according to Jackman, who previously revealed how the character will act in Deadpool 3.

Although Wolverine’s humor was already hinted at in Fox’s X-Men films, Jackman’s interpretation of the character in Deadpool 3 may lean more toward comedy to keep up with Wade Wilson’s antics. Even said, the threequel might depict Logan as solemn and expressionless while Wade cracks jokes.
