Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever received two nominations from the Golden Globes, one of which is a first for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in terms of awards.
Despite pushing almost all of its projects for nominations, Marvel Studios has never had much success during the prestigious awards season. As a result of its numerous nominations and wins at the Oscars and Golden Globes, Black Panther 2018 set a new standard for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As a result, expectations are high for Wakanda Forever to enjoy the same level of success during the awards season, though Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige refrained from making any predictions. And during that conversation, one name stood out above all others in the running for an acting award: Angela Bassett.

Is Angela Bassett of Black Panther 2 Next in Line for an Oscar Nomination?
At the time of the film’s debut and even from early reviews, Angela Bassett received high praise for her portrayal of the bereaved Queen Ramonda. The Wakandan monarch was even placed front and center on a poster designed to push Black Panther 2’s Oscar awards campaign, signifying high hopes for the actress to deliver.
Bassett’s Golden Globe nomination greatly increases her chances of winning a similar award at the Academy Awards, though it does not guarantee it. Two to three of the five actresses honored in the category at each ceremony will typically be the same, giving Bassett a legitimate chance to win the Oscar.
Regarding the musical nomination for “Lift Me Up,” Rihanna might end up winning the contest due to her outstanding vocal performance on the melancholy and moving song. Then again, she does have some stiff competition in the category with Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and more.
On January 11, 2023, the 80th Golden Globes ceremony will take place. The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards ceremony, which will take place on March 12, 2023, will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, so those holding out to learn Bassett’s chances must wait until then.
