Glenn Howerton, who starred in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, recently discussed his feelings about getting fan cast in the upcoming Fantastic Four revival in the MCU.
Fans learned that Matt Shakman of WandaVision became the first recognized member of the Fantastic Four crew shortly before the 2022 D23 Fan Expo when he replaced Jon Watts as director. After that revelation, fans remembered his work on It’s Always Sunny and assembled a series of fan castings for characters in the impending reboot featuring stars from that hugely successful sitcom.
The cast of It’s Always Sunny addressed those Fantastic Four fan castings on the show’s official podcast, making fun of the concept of them all appearing in “a movie called the Fabulous Four” and enjoying a laugh about it.
Glenn Howerton has since shared his genuine ambition to appear in this eagerly awaited MCU film, showing that he has taken the concept a little more seriously.

Glenn Howerton Wants to Play the Fantastic Four in the MCU
In an interview for his voice part in HBO Max’s Velma, actor Glenn Howerton discussed the possibility of playing Reed Richards in Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four on The Movie Dweeb’s YouTube channel.
Howerton didn’t hold back when recalling his friendship with director Matt Shakman, with whom he collaborated on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and underlined that he would “welcome that phone call” from Marvel: The Avengers.
“I don’t know why, but I feel like I’m always the underdog, which makes no sense. I just believe that there is no chance that anything I do would ever be seen by others. However, the filmmaker, Matt Shakman, is a very close friend and an extremely fantastic director, so it would be a super joy to work with him once more. However, no one has phoned me about that yet, though I would take that call.”
The Picture Then, Dweeb declared that he was in favor of Howerton being given that position and even offered to work to make it happen. Howerton even made a joke about how, if he succeeded, the actor would “give [him] 75%” of the money he would earn from that film:
“I’ll give you 75% of my… if you can get me Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four movie. Furthermore, I’m not joking because I am aware that they won’t pay me that much in the first place. It won’t really make a difference. That’s the deal: you go get me that part, and I’ll give you 75%.”
Will Howerton Be Cast in the Reed Richards Role?
One of the most well-liked fan castings for potential MCU films has been Reed Richards, particularly since John Krasinski is unlikely to play the primary Earth-616 character after his appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Fantastic Four will begin the MCU’s Phase 6 slate in 2025, and if Howerton has anything to say about it, he seems to be fully committed to taking over the position.
Howerton, who is 46 years old and a few years older than Kraskinski, has a resume that appears ideal for a future MCU star, and his work on It’s Always Sunny has fans already fantasizing about what he could achieve as the stretchy scientist Reed Richards. Additionally, the Fantastic Four won’t have an origin tale like the two franchises before it, which means that by the time Reed and the group appear in the MCU, they may already be firmly established in the chronology.
Even though this is one of the most eagerly anticipated new casts in the MCU, fans shouldn’t expect any casting news on Fantastic Four until later this year since the film won’t be released for another two years. Howerton will continue to be in the running for the part as the Multiverse Saga’s growth makes that news a reality because he has had a good chance to land it for a few years.
