Exciting Filming Update for Venom 3: When Will It Be Released?

The Sony Spider-Man Universe is still growing, as the first threequel to the series may start shooting later this year, per a recent update.

A potential Venom 3 seems inevitable after the success of Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

The movie, which has been hinted to as Tom Hardy’s “final dance,” was given the go-ahead back in April 2022. Aside from the announcement that Kelly Marcel, the writer, and producer of the first two movies, would be taking on directorial responsibilities, the project has stayed pretty quiet since then.

After months of practically no radioactivity, supporters of Sony’s symbiote can now finally look forward to anything.

According to business insider Daniel Richtman, production on Venom 3 will start soon.

The Sony Pictures threequel is scheduled to shoot in England from June to September, according to Richtman’s most recent post on his Patreon page.

Production has thus far begun on the other two Tom Hardy-starring Venom movies about a year before the eventual (or anticipated) release date.

Late October 2017 saw the start of Venom’s production, and October 5, 2018, saw the release of the film in theatres.

With an initial release date of October 2, 2020, Let There Be Carnage started filming on November 15, 2019. Due to extensive reshoots on the film and the global COVID-19 epidemic, this release would be delayed by a year to October 1, 2021.

Venom 3’s target release date would be October 2024 if the franchise’s tradition of fall releases is followed. It’s possible that Sony Pictures is planning to release the latest super-powered epic in the summer of 2024 given that development on it began a few months earlier than it did for its predecessors.

Currently, it appears like Venom 3 will be released in theatres during the second half of 2024.

With the Venom franchise and that October release window, Sony Pictures has enjoyed great success, with the two Venom movies grossing over $1.4 billion worldwide.

A move to the summer blockbuster season, however, would be advantageous for the symbiotic threequel. Only four films have been officially confirmed by Sony Pictures for the upcoming year, with three Spider-man-related releases scheduled for the end of March 2024. (El Muerto, Madame Web, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse).

Currently, Garfield, which debuts on May 24, is the only other feature on Sony’s 2024 slate. Therefore, there is plenty of room for the studio to make Venom 3 a summer movie if that is what they wanted.

One issue that the Sony executives must decide is whether the success of the first two Venom movies was due to their Fall release or whether the series could become even more of a box office powerhouse during the Summer blockbuster season.
