It has been announced that reviews of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation will be available online, just weeks before the epic PlayStation 2 hits stores.

Spider-Man 2 reviews will be released on Monday, October 16 at 10 a.m. ET. mr. ET, says Geoff Keighley, famed video game writer and the man behind the annual Game Awards presentation:

I have a complete copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation 5. It will be available in print/review on Monday, October 16 at 10:00 AM.

Fans have over 96 hours to marvel at these early reactions before they can play, as we are four days before the game’s official release.

Early sales of the game are fantastic. In September, the game was revealed to the media as part of a series of initial playable demo events.

The fast-paced sequel is described in The Guardian as a “hodgepodge of small changes [that add up to] something more substantial” and will give players “a cobweb-eating smile”:

“‘Spider-Man 2′ resembles the PS5 in many ways. At first glance, it just looks like a bigger, sleeker version of what came before it, but over time its assortment of small changes adds up.” becomes something more meaningful. “It’s an iterative rather than innovative process, a more advanced replacement that gently impresses rather than wows. Still, it’s hard to leave “Spider-Man 2″ with anything other than a web-eating grin so that the result is such a good blockbuster. Done.

The bar was set high by IGN’s Destin Legarie, who said he had “high hopes for Spider-Man 2” and that “this preview did nothing to dampen [his] optimism”:

With the little time I had, I could have explored the main plot in New York, but I was having too much fun doing all the other little things that distracted my attention. I was excited about “Spider-Man 2” and this trailer didn’t dampen my enthusiasm much. “Spider-Man 2” has a lot more in store and I can’t wait to see it.

The Gamer called the upcoming journey “the sequel we’ve all been waiting for”:

“Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the sequel I was hoping for, but this time it’s a good thing,” the reviewer said. With gameplay to match, the previous game had one of the best comic book stories in recent memory, and Insomniac simply takes it forward with more heart, action, and ambition in the sequel. I just hope it can overcome the open world and gameplay clichés to become the sequel we’ve all been waiting for.

While a new Spider-Man game from Insomniac is certainly intriguing in its own right, Spider-Man 2 is particularly so for several reasons.

The fast-paced sequel feels like a true “iteration” of the first game and the Miles Morales-centric spin-off, as several trailers for the game have highlighted.

This “iteration rather than innovation” strategy may have some drawbacks, but why reinvent the wheel when the foundations are already so solid?

These minor iterative components include the sprawling New York City and new activities to participate in, interesting new villains like Venom and Kraven, and, of course, web wings, which allow the title’s two protagonists to move around the world like never before.

It looks like Insomniac has another big hit thanks to all these little improvements and innovations that utilize the PS5’s capabilities, like faster loading times and improved visuals.

Miles Morales’ Spider-Man: Homecoming received an 85 and Marvel’s Spider-Man received an 87.

After all, fans should expect Spider-Man 2 to land somewhere in that range, with the possibility of hitting the 90s if it really impresses critics.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be available for PlayStation 5 on Friday, October 20.
