After wrapping up his run on Disney+ in 2022, Moon Knight star Ethan Hawke discussed his potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Moon Knight’s future is still a complete mystery, despite the popularity, it enjoyed during its six weeks on Disney+, as fans are still awaiting word on the location of Marc Spector’s comeback. After all, Oscar Isaac’s solo series introduced thrilling new characters like Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow and established a strong new hero with connections to Egyptian mythology and the supernatural.
Harrow encountered Khonshu and Jake Lockley, Marc Spector’s long-hidden third alter ego, in the post-credits scene of Episode 6, who appeared to shoot Harrow in the back seat.
Even after that, Ethan Hawke gave his opinion on whether or not fans will see his villain anytime soon, as the villain’s future is still in doubt.

Ethan Hawke Considers His Future with Marvel
Ethan Hawke, the star of Moon Knight, reflected on his time spent working with Marvel Studios in an interview with The Playlist and hinted at the possibility of returning for future projects.
The passion he observed in his co-star, Oscar Isaac, who “really wanted to play that part” and was prepared to give the best performance he could, was one of the main reasons he decided to join Moon Knight in the first place:
“And with Oscar Isaac playing Moon Knight, I saw a genuine opportunity. With regard to that project, Oscar was on fire. He was very eager to take on that role. And that’s encouraging. I could tell Oscar was going to try his damnedest to deliver a stellar performance in a blockbuster [laughs].”
They were “two actors in the middle of a big swashbuckling event piece,” he said, sharing how much fun they had together and how much support they received from the Marvel Studios team:
“I then decided that I would like to assist him in trying to accomplish that. In the middle of a sizable swashbuckling event piece, there were only two actors. We could at least attempt to perform our internal activities. And to be completely honest, I had a fantastic time. The fun aspect of the Marvel staff is that they adore actors. They are very kind to actors, and they are aware that if there is a strong correlation—if an actor is truly fired up to deliver an outstanding performance—the likelihood that the audience will enjoy it is very high. We don’t like it when people in the audience watch them fudge their lines, right?”
Hawke commended Isaac even more for “jumping off the cliff” in his work by taking on “this extremely challenging part”
“We enjoy seeing passion, commitment, and desire in action, which is why watching someone jump off a high dive is thrilling. I cherished watching Oscar take on this extraordinarily challenging role and dive off the cliff. So, rather than what you do, it’s always more important to me how you do it.”
The only definitive response he gave when asked if he would rejoin the MCU was his desire to enter the live theatre scene, which is currently what is really propelling him forward:
“Really, I have no idea. I have so many goals [inside and outside of Marvel]. Knock on wood, the pandemic is now mostly in the past, so I’m feeling inspired to stage a play. As I am walking down the street, I find that on the forefront of my mind once more and wonder, “When will I get back on the stage again?” Because it always seems wholesome. It kind of turns my brain on as well as me on.”
He looks forward to the thought of not having to worry about the extra aspects of producing a film or television program, such as the audience response and financial returns:
“Commercial interests are such a hot topic in the film industry; they are just so pervasive. How did the movie fare? What kind of financial impact will it have? How will it appeal to a viewership? And, as you said, there’s just something wonderful about being a storyteller and not worrying about that. Let’s just touch the thing’s true flame. Let’s gather some people in one place and perform a song or tell a tale for them. My brain is constantly reoriented by the theatre, so hopefully, that will become a thing soon.”
Will Arthur Harrow Make a Comeback in the MCU?
Nobody is ever truly dead in a comic book movie, despite Moon Knight’s best efforts to persuade viewers that Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow is dead after his confrontation with Jake Lockley. And given that Episode 6 specifically avoided showing Harrow after he allegedly received a bullet to the head, chest, or elsewhere, many people think he is still alive and well today.
As of right now, neither the second season of Moon Knight nor the location of Isaac’s MCU hero has been officially confirmed by Marvel. Additionally, it appears that Hawke is happy with the work he has already accomplished for the camera and will be concentrating on a different area over the coming months and years.
