Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Review
Marvel

By definition, diversity is everywhere. But should they really be ubiquitous? The multiverse concept inspired a playful, pinballing game in the Spider-Man franchise, and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s upcoming universe unleashes a chaotic onslaught of silliness all at once. But in this latest outing for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, a dimension-pushing teen who’s tasked with protecting America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) from evil forces intent on stealing her powers, the whole multiverse business is Starting to feel like a wasted performance. An out card is played whenever the script finds itself written in a corner. Must Read Shang-Chi Review, Cast, And Summary (2021)

Strange and Wong (Benedict Wong) are forced to battle a unicellular giant octopus, while Rachel McAdams’ Christine rolls her eyes at her wedding being disrupted by a tent gatecrasher. But the fun is short-lived, courtesy of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and director Sam Raimi’s brutal visual flourish. Unlike movies like Black Panther and Shang-Chi, which functioned as self-contained entities, this film required an encyclopedic knowledge of Marvel minutiae and world-class cross-referencing skills in order to fully function. Outside of a die-hard fan base, who has the bandwidth for that level of commitment? You Must, Read Marvel’s The Avengers Review And Plot Summary (2012).
