As Kathryn Newton takes over the role of Cassie Lang in Ant-Man 3, director Peyton Reed teased fans about where Cassie Lang is in her MCU journey.
As a more mature version of Cassie Lang, Scott Lang’s daughter, who has played a key role in both of the previous films as Scott found his way as a hero and a father, Newton is set to make her MCU debut in Ant-Man 3. The role was originally portrayed by young actress Abby Ryder Fortson in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, but Emma Furhman aged up the character by five years in Avengers: Endgame, despite the Newton recast being announced for the threequel in late 2020.
Since Cassie made her MCU debut in 2015, viewers have seen her develop from a young child into a full-fledged adolescent, but her exact age has changed as her relationship with Scott changed both on and off camera.
Fans have now been given a hint as to exactly where the character is in her transition to adulthood as she makes her debut as a superhero.

Cassie Lang’s age is confirmed by Ant-Man 3’s director.
Cassie Lang’s age will be revealed in the MCU threequel, according to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed in an interview with the Nerdhunter YouTube channel.
Reed began by recalling how he and Paul Rudd, the star of the Ant-Man films, first discussed the possibility of creating a fan-friendly character who is “kind of a regular person”:
“It’s especially satisfying because when Paul and I began work on the first movie, it was uncertain whether or not Paul Rudd would be embraced by audiences as a superhero. Will people accept the character of Ant-Man, a man who can shrink and command ants? And they have, which is very encouraging. I also believe that audiences identify with Scott Lang because he lacks superpowers, isn’t a super-scientist, and isn’t a multibillionaire. He kind of just happens to be a regular guy who gets involved in these adventures. But I believe that as a group, we have matured in terms of what we want to do with movies and how we perceive characters and family dynamics.”
Reed continued by revealing that Cassie Lang will turn 18 in the upcoming third installment, with a major theme being how much time Scott has missed and his desire to spend as much time as possible with his daughter. Naturally, some of that time spent together will be spent fighting Kang the Conqueror while Cassie also tries to “find her voice as a hero:”
We were really struck by the realization that after the events of ‘[Avengers:] Infinity War’ and ‘[Avengers:] Endgame’… In this movie, Cassie will be 18 years old! I love that! His main driving force is simply, “I want time with my daughter.” The entire theme of the story revolves around time and how much of it he’s missed. He is now interacting with Kang the Conqueror, the film’s antagonist, who essentially controls time. How do they interpret that? But I really like how Cassie isn’t Cassie anymore, but Scott can still relate to her as a child. She is now a young adult with her own ideas about what it means to be a good person, and she is attempting to find her voice as a hero. She is also capable of expressing some criticism toward her father.
Reed discussed how some relatable themes relating back to family, which have been a big part of all three Ant-Man films, are present in this threequel with Cassie now approaching adulthood:
“That seemed really luxurious, something that families could really relate to. We find it exciting because you don’t always tell your parents everything you do and they don’t always share everything they’ve been through, and the “Ant-Man” films are always about families. One of the things Paul and I think we both love about these movies is how the writers throw all these different challenges at the characters and sort of push them to their limits.”
Ant-Man 3’s Cassie is Prepared for the Avengers Evolution
According to how she appeared in earlier films, Cassie approaching her 18th birthday in Ant-Man 3 makes sense. She would have been about 16 years old in Endgame, 11 in Ant-Man and the Wasp, and 8 in Ant-Man. This is in line with statements made by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler, who explained that Ant-Man 3 and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever both take place about two years after the events of Endgame.
Even in a world where her father is an Avenger, Cassie also appears to be headed down a dangerous path as she approaches adulthood. Prior to being taken into the Quantum Realm with Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, Cassie was shown in the movie’s exclusive San Diego Comic-Con 2022 premiere trailer being arrested and in police custody as her father arrived to save the day.
Now that the threequel’s release is just a few months away, only time will tell how Cassie will carve out her own niche in a universe where superheroes are more prevalent than ever.
