Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool 3, will be added to his own class of MCU creators by Marvel Studios.
Having previously collaborated with star Ryan Reynolds on the films Free Guy and The Adam Project in 2021 and 2022, respectively, Levy now has the distinct pleasure of helming the first R-rated film to be produced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Given that his work on Deadpool 3 will slightly overlap with his time on Stranger Things Season 5, in which he has played a crucial part over the past few years, this will make Levy one of the busiest actors in Hollywood over the coming two years.
However, as it turns out, his responsibilities for Deadpool 3 go beyond his role as the film’s director.

Deadpool 3 Marketing by Shawn Levy
Along with the film’s star, Ryan Reynolds, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, director Shawn Levy is reportedly serving as a producer on the third installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This information was revealed in a Deadline report that also confirmed the return of Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams.
This will be the first time in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Marvel Studios has chosen to award a director of a picture-producing credit on a project they are already directing.
In recent MCU history, WandaVision director Matt Shakman also worked as a producer on his Disney+ series, breaking the tradition of Marvel Studios directors also serving as producers.
James Gunn, who directed the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, also served as executive producer on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special and I Am Groot on Disney+ both feature him in the same role.
In Gunn’s case, the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special was a Disney+ program rather than a film, and he wasn’t the director of Infinity War, Endgame, or I Am Groot.
Due to the fact that he is listed on the projects as an executive producer rather than a producer, it is likely that he was only involved in a tiny portion of the production rather than overseeing the full process. Nevertheless, the Holiday Special was different because Gunn served as both the executive producer and the director.
How Deeply Levy Is Getting Into His Deadpool 3 Tasks
With their responsibilities on MCU projects, Marvel Studios has given its creatives more freedom than ever. A number of actors have taken on dual roles as executive producers of respective series or films.
This even applies to Deadpool 3 since Ryan Reynolds‘ Maximum Effort Productions and Marvel Studios will jointly produce the film as Reynolds introduces Deadpool to the MCU for the first time.
Levy is without a doubt prepared to take on the challenge of integrating such a famous character with the franchise that fans have wanted to see him join for years, especially given Levy and Reynolds‘ past together.
Fans will probably soon learn more about Levy and Reynolds‘ work on the threequel as filming appears to begin in the upcoming months, especially given how eagerly this project is awaited.
Levy’s addition to the MCU’s elite group of filmmakers also makes it more likely that he will be around for more than just one solo film.
