While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to be the final adventure for this iteration of the Guardians team, Dave Bautista has already announced his departure from the MCU as Drax ahead of the threequel.
Bautista has long hinted at his exit from the MCU as Drax.
The actor previously stated that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will “most likely be the end” of his character’s arc and his last appearance under his Marvel contract.
The WWE Legend also shared his thoughts on how playing Drax changed his life, using the hashtag “#GoodbyeDrax” in his Instagram post.

Dave Bautista Bids Goodbye, Guardians
According to the latest GQ cover story, Dave Bautista discussed playing Drax in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy while also being at peace with the fact that it is his final portrayal of the character.
Bautista is saying goodbye to Drax after nine years, six films, and a holiday special on Disney+.
While acknowledging that he is grateful to have played the character, Bautista expressed “relief” that it is over, noting that “it wasn’t all pleasant” due to the makeup process.
Bautista also stated that he is unsure if he wants Drax to be his legacy. Instead, the former WWE champion expressed a desire to “do more dramatic stuff:”
“I’m eternally grateful to Drax. I adore him. But there’s a sense of relief that it’s over. It wasn’t all good. It was difficult to play that part. The makeup application was exhausting. And I’m not sure if I want Drax to be my legacy – it’s a silly performance, and I’d rather do more dramatic work.”
Bautista had to go through months of auditions before finally landing the role of Drax. This comes on top of rumors that he was competing for the role with bigger names.
Bautista revealed that he found out about the role of the Marvel superhero while driving to the gym. The actor reflected on his emotional experience:
“I had to pull over because I was crying so much. I turned around and walked into my house, shaking, to tell my wife I’d gotten the part, and we were both freaking out.”
Dave Bautista Just Revealed Drax’s Fate in Vol. 3?
The emotional trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has fans speculating that at least one team member will perish in the threequel. Furthermore, Marvel’s James Gunn confirmed that “not all” of the Guardians will survive the film.
While many speculate that Rocket Racoon will die, Dave Bautista’s most recent comments suggest that Vol. 3 will be the end of Drax’s story.
Although it appears to be a spoiler, saying goodbye to Drax could imply that the character will not die, especially since he is openly revealing this information. Instead of dying tragically, Drax may retire as a Guardian at the end of Vol. 3.
Meanwhile, Bautista’s comment about being relieved to no longer be playing Drax is unsurprising, especially given that putting on the makeup is “just a nightmare” for him.
It’s understandable that Bautista is relieved to be leaving Drax, but there’s no denying that his portrayal will have a lasting impact on Marvel fans all over the world.
