Chris Evans explains his reluctance to rejoin Marvel

Chris Evans spoke about playing Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, once again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) amid speculation of a Marvel return.

As for his desire to rejoin Marvel, Evans has been quite open. In a previous interview, the actor admitted that he “would be upset” if the new Steve Rogers episode didn’t pan out.

Additionally, Evans acknowledged in a separate interview that he already had a solid run with the character and that a return to the MCU “doesn’t feel right” right now for fear of messing it up.

Chris Evans discussed the potential for him to reprise his role as Captain America when he appears as a guest on Good Morning America (GMA) to promote his upcoming movie Ghosted, which will be available on Apple TV+.

The MCU veteran said there are “some” unexpected Marvel appearances in Ghosted and praised the artists for rising to the occasion to play his support system in the film:

Chris Evans: “[In ‘Ghosted’] there are several cameos. That’s accurate. Can we divulge that? I guess. Yeah, some of our old Marvel friends are back, and I hate soliciting appearances from people. This is the worst.

According to GMA, “some people liked doing it.”

Evans: “Yeah, I guess, if it fits into their schedule. However, these guys stepped up and supported me. It was excellent.

Many people were interested in knowing when Evans will return to the MCU as Steve Rogers, and GMA raised the same question during the interview.

Evans began by stating that the character is “very precious” to him and that he “protects” him:

“Oh dude, as much as I’d love to, you know. That period of my life was very memorable. The problem is, I hold the character in high regard. I’m so wary of him.”

The actor who plays Steve Rogers later expressed his reluctance to rejoin the MCU, saying that it “feels a little early” and that “there are other stories to tell:”

“To come back, it would have to be at the right time and for the right reasons. It seems a little early. Right now, Captain America is Anthony Mackie. There are more stories to tell. We’re left on such a high note.” At the moment I would worry that he would fog up too much.

Interestingly, Evans stated that he would “love” to reprise his role as Johnny Storm in a previous interview with Josh Horowitz, stating that it would be an “easier sell” for him to do so than to play Steve Rogers:

Well, they are, but as you well know, anything is possible in the Multiverse. There are six different Johnny Storms available.

Evans: “I guess that’s true, yeah. I guess all bets are off, really. Yeah. Look, I’d love to. I’d love to. I think it would be more persuasive for me than coming back as Captain America. Do you know what I’m saying?? The cap means the world to me. And to be honest, I almost don’t want to ruin such a wonderful experience. Johnny Storm didn’t seem to have a full day, though, in my opinion. That is, before Marvel really stood up, Therefore, he adored that role, and who knows?

In Avengers 5 or 6, would Chris Evans reprise his role as Captain America?

Chris Evans has repeatedly stressed the importance of timing in his recent and past comments about his return as Captain America.

Evans seems quite clear that he hasn’t ruled out any kind of return, despite the actor’s obvious reluctance to do so due to his fierce adherence to Steve Rogers‘ MCU reputation.

Given that the actor is “expected” to reprise his iconic role as Steve Rogers “in at least one Marvel property with the door open for a second film” in the future, it’s plausible that Evans is aware of a potential Marvel return.

If Evans does indeed reprise his role as Captain America, it stands to reason that it will take place in a notable movie rather than a quick cameo. According to fan speculation, the chances of seeing Evans’s Star-Spangled Avengers again are higher in the next two Avengers movies.

Evans properly respects the MCU character’s heritage of his, so he would be well-deserved to return to any future Marvel projects, and he wouldn’t feel out of place with what the Multiverse Saga is trying to accomplish.

Chris Evans‘ final MCU cameo can be seen in Avengers Endgame, which is currently streaming on Disney+.
