Black Panther 2 Special is being removed from Disney+ this month.

The company announced that one of Disney’s Black Panther 2 Disney+ specials will be pulled from the platform at the end of this month.

Disney+ is one of many streamers removing content when the streaming bubble seems to have burst.

The MCU’s streaming home is now removing exclusives from the service as cancellations in an effort to save costs amid the entertainment industry’s worsening financial situation.

UPDATE (5/22/2023): According to Deadline, Disney+ will be streaming Marvel’s Rising Voice: The Music of Wakanda even though it plans to remove it as part of the streamer’s content removal plans.

ORIGINAL: Marvel’s Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever, a special from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will no longer be available on Disney+ as part of the service’s initial round of content cuts.

According to Deadline, the special, which premiered in late February, will no longer be available on the streamer on Friday, May 26.

Voices Rising is a three-episode television series that was initially announced in January. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the music and overall soundtrack of the popular 2022 film.

According to Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler, the goal of the documentary is to show viewers that “soundtracks like this don’t exist” and to put faces to the many people who contribute to the success of the Black Panther audio experience:

“Scores like this aren’t done anymore because of the amount of cultural specificity these songs have sprinkled throughout the film.”

There is no physical distribution or streaming backup plan for Voices Rising in case Disney+ stops offering it.

The Risk of Pulling Content

Black Panther 2
Marvel

The argument that this type of material purging sets a dangerous precedent is not new, but it is nonetheless significant.

Voices Rising and other shows will be removed, saving Disney some money, but also resulting in the loss of a lot of creative work and being saved along with other Disney tax breaks.

This Black Panther 2 particular will not be available when Disney+ comes out. The Wakandan documentary series cannot be downloaded, rented, purchased, or streamed in any (legal) way. And it’s dangerous.

In other words, Disney (and other studios) are intentionally working to make piracy the only way to enjoy some of this content, while actively working to discourage consumers from stealing content, something they’re really starting to have a hard time with. success on these streaming services.

The whole project sounds like a fantastic opportunity for Disney to cut ties with the Hollywood creative community.

Voices Rising is a passion project for both composer Ludwig Goransson and Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler. If Marvel Studios decides to make Black Panther 3, this could be one of the reasons Coogler and Coranson won’t be returning for the trilogy.

Marvel’s Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever is now available on Disney+; The documentary will be filmed on Friday, May 26.
