The director and producer of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania discussed Bill Murray’s importance in the upcoming threequel.
As exciting as it is to have Bill Murray on the show, the rest of the world has no idea who he is playing. Whoever it is, the actor is part of the film’s main cast, so his appearance will be more than a cameo.
Previous rumors suggested that he would play Krylar, a character who previously appeared in one issue of The Incredible Hulk in 1962 and briefly in Agents of SHIELD.
While the mystery remains, the upcoming film’s director teased what Murray’s character will be doing in the film.

Bill Murray’s Significant Role in Ant-Man
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed discussed Bill Murray’s “crucial role” in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Reed revealed that the legendary actor is playing “a character from Janet Van Dyne’s past:”
“Bill Murray takes on the role of a character from Janet van Dyne’s past… It is a critical role. The things that parents and children don’t say to each other, the secrets that families keep, are a major theme in this film. When Hank and Hope rescued Janet in the previous film, Evangeline Lilly’s character thought to herself, “Oh, I’m going to be reunited with my mom, this is going to be great, we’re going to talk about everything.”
Murray’s character, according to the director, represents how “the past will always find a way to show up again:”
“But what if the other person, in this case, Janet, puts up a wall and isn’t comfortable talking about certain things or doesn’t reveal certain things about her past? As we know from great stories, you can put the past behind you, but it will always find a way to come back to haunt you. In this film, Bill’s character represents that.”
While Murray is wonderful, Reed revealed that working on “the Scott-Cassie relationship” after Avengers: Endgame was one of the “single most intriguing” parts of the film.
“One of the most intriguing things I was excited to do in this film was to advance the Scott-Cassie relationship… It’s been central to all of the Ant-Man films, with the main difference being that Cassie is now a young woman as a result of Endgame. She has developed her own scientific mind. She’s been reading Hank Pym’s old journals and notebooks and has become obsessed with quantum science and quantum technology.”
Will Bill Murray be around to tell the tale?
While the world may not know who Bill Murray’s character is for certain, it is likely that they will wonder if he will survive Quantumania.
According to Peyton Reed’s comments above, Murray is an old friend of Janet Van Dyne. Given that the last time an old friend was a part of the story, ala Laurence Fishburne’s Bill Foster, things didn’t go so well for the team, hopefully, this time will be different.
With Kang the Conqueror as the main antagonist, Murray could have a secret alliance with Jonathan Major’s character. Skylar could also be responsible for the last notable group of rebels against Kang’s rule.
Then there’s MODOK, who hasn’t revealed much about himself. Could he be working with Bill Murray?
