Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 The director of, James Gunn, has just thrown shade over a casting that was picked for the big MCU event movie, Avengers: Infinity War.
For the most part, since the Guardians were introduced in the original 2014 film, the characters have been under Gunn’s control and influence. However, from time to time, they do venture outside of his watchful eye.
Most recently, the group appeared briefly in Thor: Love and Thunder. Before that, they were involved in both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
As it turns out, while Gunn may have been involved in some conversations, he may not have been on board with every creative decision.

James Gunn Criticizes the Decision for Avengers: Infinity War
James Gunn, the writer-director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Avengers: Infinity War’s choice of the iconic Star-Lord/Peter Quill helmet was criticized on Twitter.
The filmmaker said that he was “in his desk drawer in Nauvoor” and that Chris Pratt’s MCU hero never took him out on his quick vacation at the beginning of the volume. 3 When asked where in the image:
“Nowhere, it’s in his desk drawer. You know he’s got to go fast! The rockets that clip onto his boots are much less efficient than rocket-generated jet packs, so they’re no longer available (according to the next question, people ask).
In another user, vol. 2, his helmet broke when Peter Quill was fighting Ego. The filmmaker admitted that he was broken, but later hinted at a possible continuity error in Avengers: Infinity War, “somehow” he put the iconic helmet back on:
And then he seemed to have something new in “IW”.
The Helmet of Peter Quill Issue
Fans may not have noticed at first, but throughout Vol. 3, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord never truly wears his helmet.
Given how recognizable the appearance is, some viewers may have hoped for an updated take on the famous headgear worn by the figure.
It’s difficult to see why Gunn would be upset that Peter Quill received a new helmet in Infinity War. That the character would have produced another in the subsequent four years is quite logical.
Quill also nearly lost his life when his previous one broke in Vol. 2. So getting a new one would probably be at the top of his list of priorities, if only for utility reasons. Certainly, near the conclusion of Volume 3, he could have used one.
Also, the justification for Gunn’s disappearance is rare. Although Quill was in a hurry to leave Nowhere, he still had plenty of time to gather the necessary supplies, including the team’s uniforms.
Thankfully, Vol. 3 is a fantastic movie that is receiving acclaim from critics and fans alike, helmet or not. Hopefully, he’ll get a chance to wear a new helmet every time he respawns.
