Avengers 5 Writer Confirms Unexpected Movie “Protagonist”

Jeff Loveness, the head writer of Avengers 5, has officially revealed who would play the main “protagonist” in his next MCU collaboration film.

Avengers 5 will be released six years after its predecessor, Avengers: Endgame and fans can’t wait to discover which characters will make up the film’s main cast as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes face off against Kang the Conqueror.

Three heroes were said to be joining the fray in this sequel in December 2022, and it was said that Captain America, Shang-Chi, and the Black Panther will be a part of the initial Avengers attack on Kang.

Most recently, Loveness hinted that Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, maybe the star of the film. But, it is still unclear who will be the main character in this sweeping Phase 6 tale.

Writer of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania Jeff Loveness announced the identity of the lead character in his upcoming MCU project, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, during an interview with ComicBook.com’s Phase Zero podcast.

Loveness was asked by host Brandon Davis if Kang the Conqueror would follow the same route as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Avengers: Infinity War used Thanos as its “protagonist” (the primary character).

When he embarks on his own crusade throughout the Multiverse, Kang “has got to be his own hero,” according to Loveness, who stated that he intends to script the movie with this idea in mind:

“At least, that’s how I’m attempting to describe him. He had to be his own hero, despite what Kang the Conqueror and Ant-Man believed. We’ll see how the structure and flow change as time goes on. Or perhaps he wouldn’t refer to himself as a “hero,” but he is engaged in a crusade and has a goal in mind. So, it’s a Kang movie in secret, but you have to keep the Avengers moving forward, of course. But yes, I am aware that it is a Kang film.”

In a 2019 Hollywood Unscripted interview, conducted by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, they discussed such a notion.

It took “a few months,” according to McFeely, to settle on Thanos as the story’s major protagonist since there were concerns about whether this would ultimately succeed:

“A major character and a main through line had to be chosen. Moreover, it took us a while. Nevertheless, someone suddenly exclaimed, “Hey, I suppose this is Thanos’s narrative. Yeah, he’s the movie’s protagonist. Will we actually carry out that plan?”

He added that since the “Avengers are Thanos’ adversaries” in that film, the Mad Titan had the chance for a narrative that was genuinely centered on his path and his own difficulties:

“Yes, I believe we will accomplish that, making the Avengers Thanos’ adversaries. He experiences a true hero’s journey. And as a result, he has the opportunity to express his true thoughts to you. He is allowed to sacrifice things and people that are dear to him in order to achieve his goals. He faces obstacles every step of the way. It results from the paradigm that we choose. Also, Brolin is a great actor, and the technology is incredible.”

How Kang, played by Jonathan Majors, will shine in Avengers 5

It’s hardly surprising to hear Jeff Loveness refer to Kang as the main protagonist of Avengers 5 in line with Avengers: Infinity War, especially given that the character’s name appears in the title.

The antagonist played by Jonathan Majors even has the benefit of having previously guest-starred in Episode 6 of Loki and starred in Ant-Man 3 as a villain for the entirety of the film. All of this occurs prior to his next significant part as Victor Timely in Loki Season 2, which gives him another Option to use to further develop his character before Avengers 5.

Because of Kang’s ability to live in so many different variations across the Universe, he should have the possibility to be even more potent than Thanos. Avengers 5 will undoubtedly leverage this as a key story point.

Loveness is hard at work making sure that Majors’s nemesis receives all the attention he deserves in this expansive story, even though fans just have a hint of the storyline aspects that will appear in this new sequel.

And because there are so many different Kangs in reality, he’ll be even more of a presence throughout the Multiverse Saga before the journey concludes in this upcoming team-up adventure.
