Kang Dynasty has big shoes to fill for MCU fans after the climax of Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers 5 was first teased at the now-famous San Diego Comic-Con 2022 panel when the studio laid out its big-screen ambitions for the next five years.
The comic book story of the same name in both this film and Avengers: Secret Wars inspired the name Kong Dynasty.

When will Avengers 5 be released?
The Avengers: The Kang Dynasty release date is currently set for May 1, 2026.
This comes after the film’s original release date of May 2, 2025, which was delayed with several changes to Marvel’s overall schedule.
A Writers Guild of America strike forced Hollywood writers to put down their pens and close their laptops, halting the development of the project.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp” Avengers 5 is written by Quantum Mania writer Jeff Loveness, while Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, will direct the film.
However, recent reports suggest that Marvel’s faith in Loveness is questionable. According to some sources, the writer would have been fired from the project.
Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed this, but given the negative reviews of Loveness’ previous MCU project, Quantummania, it wouldn’t be surprising.
Kong Dynasty’s release date is still up in the air due to this speculation and the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
Although the studio has already delayed the arrival of Avengers 5 by a year, release dates are flexible in Hollywood, so if the film can’t begin production soon, it could be delayed even further.
Who will star in Avengers 5?
Only one actor has been confirmed to star in Avengers 5.
Named after him in the title, Jonathan Majors’ Kong the Conqueror will be the main antagonist in the upcoming Avengers movie as it sets the stage for Phase 6 of Avengers: Secret Wars.

What will Avengers: Five influence Secret Wars?
One of its key elements is the way Kong Dynasty sets the ball rolling to finish off the Secret Wars web a year later.
After the surprising cliffhanger of Avengers: Infinity War, when bad guy Thanos destroyed half the world, Marvel Studios had to take a new approach with Avengers 5 to 6.
With the Avengers winning this time, the Kong Dynasty can differentiate itself from the ending of Infinity War.
There should certainly be enough unresolved issues to set up a sequel, but Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could defeat Kong in Avengers 5 (or at least they hope so).
Will Avengers 5 be more impactful than Endgame?
As incredible as it may seem, Avengers 5 has the potential to surpass Avengers: Endgame.
The in-universe stakes will undoubtedly be higher than those of Marvel Studios’ previous two Avengers films, even if it is a colossal effort to achieve the same level of box office success.
The main factor that makes things worse is the film’s antagonist. All Marvel Studios heroes had to band together to defeat Thanos, who turned out to be the Avengers‘ greatest enemy. But Jonathan Major’s Kong is unlike any enemy these heroes have ever faced.
Across the multiverse, this enemy appears in infinite varieties, each determined to rule all of reality. Instead of a single bloodthirsty dictator, Marvel’s super-powered team will now have to fight infinite variations of one that actually spans multiple planes.

Fans can expect the Avengers 5 teaser six months before its release on May 1, 2026.
Marvel Studios released trailers for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame five and four months, respectively, before each film’s release.
So if The Kong Dynasty manages to get the May 2026 release date, audiences should be ready for the first look sometime in or around the same year.
