Ant-Man 3 Removed the Scene That Teased Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

It seems that an intriguing moment that would have teased Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was removed from Ant-Man 3

In addition to giving its main characters another adventure, Paul Rudd’s most recent blockbuster also served as a means of introducing the MCU’s next major antagonist, for better or worse.

Naturally, the individual in question was Kang the Conqueror from Jonathan Majors.

Future iterations of the character will come in a variety of forms, but Quantumania primarily concentrated on the “warrior” Variation.

Author Jeff Loveness of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty talked about the recently released MCU film’s cut scenes, including scenes that would have given Jonathan Majors’ main antagonist more development.

The writer admitted that “plenty of stuff” was removed from the finished movie, including “additional Kang backstory, [which] [he] think[s] is probably best served by [Avengers: The Kang Dynasty]:

“Lots of things. One, in particular, contains a little more backstory for Kang, which I believe would be more suited for “Avengers.” Where he is going, where he has been, and such things.”

When Loveness talked with The Hollywood Reporter, the publication alluded to recently discovered evidence that star Evangeline Lilly once had sequences with long hair and her own children. Another deleted scene was then made public.

Loveness laughed and said, “[he] doesn’t know what [he] can say, although there was Hope’s perspective on the Multiverse as well at one point in the movie:”

“(Laughs.) I’m not sure what to say. Oh boy… While it was a plot that I really enjoyed with Hope and Evangeline [Lilly], scripts are always broader than the cut that the audience sees, so I certainly understand why we had to condense the film. I adore the now-playing movie, but there was a little bit more. Again, I’m not sure exactly what I can discuss, but there was also Hope’s viewpoint on the Multiverse, possibilities, and other related topics.”

The speaker went on to say that he is “a huge fan of Evangeline’s performance in some of that stuff” and that viewers “never know what might come back around in an Avengers movie down the road”

“I enjoy that story, and I particularly enjoy Evangeline’s portrayal of certain characters in that material. So you never know what might make a reappearance in a future “Avengers” film, but I can’t say too much more. Even though I’m content with what we currently have, there is always room for improvement in the three-hour Loveness cut. Maybe one day you’ll see it.”

Loveness was asked what aspect of making the movie he would remember the most, and he replied that he once played a henchman who was destroyed by MODOK:

“I was destroyed by MODOK in a deleted sequence that involved me. After all the times we shot it, I suppose I died about 25 times as a small henchman who spoke back to him and got destroyed. So getting slaughtered by MODOK was definitely my favorite day, and maybe that will also be included in the Loveness film.”

Given how important Kang was to Quantumania, it almost seems unfortunate that the character’s backstory wasn’t revealed.

But some viewers would not have gone to see the third Ant-Man adventure given its poor critical reception, those scenes may be the ideal way to reintroduce people to the big evil.

When it comes to the upcoming Avengers film, Loveness will undoubtedly have his hands full. The stakes are great, from discovering Kang and his several personalities to major character deaths and more Namor.

The Hope van Dyne deleted scenes were almost probably better off remaining in the movie. Given that her name appears in the film’s title, it seems strange that Wasp received so little screen time in Ant-Man 3.

Yet a crucial point is: How much of this trimmed material was actually shot, and which passages were chopped even before the cameras began to roll?

Because if they were filmed, there is a possibility that they might be included in the movie’s home distribution as deleted scenes.
