A Lost Disney Movie Song Was Covered by WandaVision

One of WandaVision’s songs, according to MCU songwriting duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, was initially created for a Disney film.

The theme music was crucial to the success of Marvel Studios’ original Disney+ series because it followed a comedy formula.

The snappy comedy tunes for WandaVision were written by the songwriting team behind Frozen and Coco, Robert Lopez, and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, but it turns out that this wasn’t their only source of inspiration.

Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez discussed how they customized an unused Disney song for WandaVision in an interview with the D23 Inside Disney podcast.

Robert Lopez said that “We truly did” and that one Gigantic song was used in “this program called WandaVision” when questioned about his involvement in the now-canceled animated Disney musical Gigantic.

I find it to be a pretty intriguing question. We did… Luckily, after “Gigantic,” the songs were returned to us. We examined it thoroughly for its legality and discovered that we could utilize them. Though we haven’t utilized them much, we have used two of them. One was utilized in the program “WandaVision.”

Lopez continued by revealing that the Gigantic song, “We Got Something Cooking,” was used as the theme song for WandaVision’s Episode 3.

“We took the music and the chords from a little ditty we created for ‘Gigantic,’ and it became [‘We Got Something Cooking. ‘] … That is taken from “Gigantic.” A song from an Obama-produced Netflix special called “These Are Your Rights” is also available.

An 11-year-old female giant living in a realm of giants within the clouds was discovered by Jack in the animated musical Gigantic, which was set in Spain and followed his adventures.

At the 2015 D23 Expo, Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez initially revealed their involvement in the movie. In 2017, Gigantic was formally terminated.

The Brady Bunch in particular served as an inspiration for the “We Got Something Cooking” opener in WandaVision Episode 3, which was set in the 1970s.

The phrase “getting ready for the arrival of their twins, Tommy and Billy” appeared in the title.

A Fresh Life for Giant in the MCU

It’s fascinating to hear that the songwriters for WandaVision really transformed a Disney song that was discarded into a ’70s-inspired theme for an MCU series.

Yet it wasn’t the only challenge this husband and wife pair overcame for WandaVision.

Six of the seven themes that the two created for the Marvel series had to depict a distinct television era while still capturing the episode’s plot.

The second song was “Agatha All Along,” the theme song for a single character that went on to win an Emmy. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, admitted that he “would go around singing” the song.

It wouldn’t be shocking if Marvel Studios used the songwriting team again given their success.

It’s exciting to learn how an unheard song from the scrapped Gigantic gained new life in the MCU and was added to WandaVision’s smash playlist in the interim, though.
